Re: Bay Area folks! Hang out Pantsless weekend of October 15

I imagine people are in transit and not reading this, but as feared work is super-crunchy today. I don't think I'll be able to get away for lunch. Dinner might be doable, depending on where and when. What's the plan for that? And, if anyone sees this, pm me your number so that I can try and meet up ...

This is probably one reason why there's not (to my knowledge) a whole lot of research into whether cows and pigs feel pain or grief (another is that there's no money in it :P). We don't want to know if the answer is yes.

I'm a fan of HWG and fortitude -- when I permed the first one, I was able to run a lot more ML as long as I was careful, and when I got them both I found that the limiting factor became not survivability but availability. In fact, in some runs I remember dropping fortitude because I didn't want to k...

Re: Things to think about when planning SC pathed runs

The thing about pulling orbs is that if you're getting 250 stat apiece from them, you're basically saving a little less than a turn, since a clover will get you slightly better stats at the cost of a turn. I'd rather pull tomb ratchets or rat tail tangles, which save about the same number of turns b...

Re: AfH Strategy: Is the stocking mimic useful for speed?

Yes, the strategy around the mimic has been evolving considerably since this article was first published. In particular, the cocoabo aspects are more powerful than I gave them credit for, since the meat can be converted into stats at the statues, and in hardcore it's nice to have a familiar which gi...

That's pretty awesome. Looking forward to trying it out in a couple of days.

Thanks!

Re: Low-skill hardcore strategy bifurcation

Rogue program for parachute men and finger cuffs. Finger cuffs are outstanding for sewerleveling when used in conjunction with a hipster.

I'd pair it with a llama for sure -- better stats and adventures than agua, plus more versatility.

Re: Lead-ins for pathed HC.

HCO DB is pretty good, especially if you're missing one or more +item skills, but if you have them all, I think the 20% item is probably less useful than the ML. I could be wrong (I'm almost positive that's true for softcore). Also, if you're totally crazy and trying to do some kind of wacky super-l...

Re: Low-skill hardcore strategy bifurcation

It's a little hard to sum everything up neatly, but I'll take a general stab at it (some nuances might be glossed over as a result): Your goals on day 1 for a low-skill ascension is to get liver. You'll need a big boost of stats to make this happen, and the various strategies are: If you have olfact...

Re: Low-skill hardcore strategy bifurcation

Standard disclaimer goes here. How important is day 1 liver? If you're trying to maximize turngen, you get an extra SHC and a pumpkin beer each day that you have it, or 26.5 adventures if you aren't able to get it day 1. Granted, that's a lot of adventures, but maybe not run-killing? Gourd potions: ...

1100 mainstat that comes on at 30 myst I would estimate to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 turns.

I mean really come on, even I'm fast at HC than you :P

In my defense, I played 0 turns on days 5 and 6, so that really should have been a 6/1090.

I know, I know...shoulda woulda coulda. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I'm enjoying it very much, and I've caught myself occasionally thinking "but what does this *really* mean?" when I watch the latest viral youtube video or what have you. I blame Klosterman for that.

Re: eror11's DiTR3 3/621 29 skills DB Wallaby

One thing I always try to do when stocking Hagnk's is to think about things that might go awry and stock for them. Stuff like fancy chocolate cars (if I end my run in the tower with no organ but have a pull left), perfume, pickle juice and spare air, 4-d cameras, extra tomb ratchets, extra wet stew ...

Re: Snaelda Ditr III SCNP 2/646 AT Wallaby

Congrats! Not a whole lot to say about your run; you explained a lot of your choices quite nicely. A few suggestions, though: - Since you don't have Unaccompanied Miner, delay acquiring the mining outfit and doing the goatlet to day 2, so that you can save a few turns farming the outfit and ore. - I...

Hear hear. Getting into the hedge maze or closer and not finishing is a real kick in the pants. A few other thoughts for you: - I think that your goblin king mishap was salvageable, but not with using another yellow ray. Using that second YR on the harem girl meant you couldn't do the war frat on da...
