Re: Board Games

Power Grid is fantastic. There is a lot of arithmetic, but it isn't hard, just detailed. You spend ttime figuring out the most you'd be willing to bid for a power plant based on its projected fuel costs, which are laid out in a table, and how many cities you will power with it and your other plants,...

Has anyone played the new Steve Jackson "card" game, MUNCHKIN? It's supposed to be like Dungeons & Dragons without the boring role-playing stuff, just nothing but hack and slash in dungeons and leveling up. If you are using putty (or fax or rain-doh or 4-d camera) you need +177% meat to have a 50% chance to break even (or reduce turncount), and without putty you need about +257% meat. Of course, you want even more than that since 50% is not good odds on losing turns. This is purely based on turncount. ...

Re: Yet another short-notice trip for Verdi

Yep, you recommended those last time I snuck into town! Churchkey is a gastropub; I had North Carolina BBQ flatbread pizza that was pretty good (with gherkins and coleslaw on it). The beer selection is along the same lines as Rustico (same company, but different choices) and was awesome! I'm looking...

Re: Less Seal Clubbing, More Book Clubbing!

Whym, you're up :P I'll give this 3 days before I let mara nag me into rerolling. It will eventually be me and then I'm going to pick a book that finally ends this club. Right now I'm split between Finnegans Wake and one of the Twilight books. Muahahaha. I'm still waiting for someone to pick Gravit...

Re: Yet another short-notice trip for Verdi

Sorry for the short notice! I really never know if I'm coming until about 5pm the day before.

Totally different place this time: I'm in Rosslyn, two blocks from the metro stop.

I made it out to Churchkey last night, and I'm thinking about going back to eat at Birch & Barley tonight.

Yet another short-notice trip for Verdi

I'm creating this thread because this happens more often than I would like, and I never know exactly where to post to ask you guys for advice. (Which has always been great, because you are awesome. You smell nice, too.) I'm in DC again. Occupational hazard. I booked flights Friday, spent all day Sat...

Re: Epicmoose's SCO SC 4/370

Ah, right, hipster! I forgot that the most recent version of the visualizer usually puts the first familiar in a weird place. So a few natural hipster fights, plus a puttied hipster fight. Thanks Phil.

Re: Epicmoose's SCO SC 4/370

This is what got me: [1] Spooky Putty Monster [132,45,54] What was this? Something standard (fax+putty) plus the aggregate of all your vacation stats that didn't get recorded? (Took me a few seconds to figure out where 15 adventures might have gone... and by "a few seconds," I mean about 30  )

Re: Revamped for 2011!: AFHk Leaderboards

I re-read my post above, and I hope it wasn't taken as a complaint in ANY way; it was purely information for debugging purposes! (For science!)

These boards are really great. Thanks again for all the hard work.

THAT'S what I've been doing wrong! I just need to do the quests faster...

Great run, Phil!

Re: Steam (the thread previously known as TF2)

I'm slowly getting the hang of TF2. (Although I have not played for nearly as much time as my Steam profile claims. I think my download time counted for "playing" time, as well as the nights I had the application open, but was not in a game.) Anyhoo, I have accumulated a bunch of crates I will never...
