Tour Guide Sound Bites

Post by Creelie » Wed May 12, 2010 8:06 pm

Hey guys,

I'm crazy busy with school, don't have time to do anything more complicated than pounding through turns with Mafia, but I wanted to throw this out there for anyone doing 100% familiar runs:

Bander with muscle class. Don't do eet.

Seriously I am so poor all the time. It sucks.

That is all for now, but if you have related pearls of wisdom to contribute you're welcome to toss them here.

I've been short on RL time as well for the last year or so. I've been doing lazy 100% runs. In my experience any starfish, while not the fastest, is the easiest. Meat issues are taken care of by copious amounts of MP flowing your way.

Probably the best 100% run is the BBB -- just a hell of a lot of fun.

I think I had the most fun with cocoabo-types. The NPZR and especially the stocking mimic were a blast. Tons of meat, tons of MP, and with the stocking, fun little candies!

I haven't done that many tour guide runs, but I loved my lazy dandy lion run. I tried with a llama and it blew hard.

I pretty much only do 100% runs these days, with my softcore and HC chars, both, and I really like them. I highly recommend it for a change of pace, since the standard runs get so repetitive. Suddenly you have something new to think about - how do I play with no free outfits from the boulder; how do I play with no item drop boosts/stat gains/mp/whatever from my familiars; should I do the nuns without a leprechaun?

So yeah, you'll be bankrupt sometimes, and you won't be making too many leaderboards, but you'll have a lot of fun. I finished the pro tour guide on both chars, but I'm still 100%-ing along. And I've still got a ton of familiars without even a single kill...

I am loving my Slimeling run so much, wow. I needed this after the Banderslog.

Okay, I'm on my last of the 30 familiar 100% runs. This is the distillation of my accumulated wisdom.

Here are the familiars that are IMHO the most fun to run:
1) Stocking Mimic -- NPZR + drops + stats. This is just a pure pleasure. Don't make my mistake and start the nem quest in-run. Instead just go for leaderboard. I ended with 40k meat.
2) BBB -- whelp + familiar with the normal equipment and then massive +ML later is just wonderful
3) Any starfish familiar -- massive MP means you never have to look at your inventory for junk to sell for meat past day 1. Save your fac dict too.
4) NPZR familiars -- massive MP, massive meat.
5) Wild Hare -- drops, stats, adventures, not bad
6) PBS -- this is mostly fun because at some point you don't worry about drops or stats because you get both. It's hard to run this familiar, and not at all lazicore, but it's a fun run.
7) Slimeling -- not at all fun on day-1, but after that it gets increasingly easier.
8) GGG/Hobo -- similar to slimeling, but not nearly as fun. Break your hippy stone and get a bartender for the Hobo.
9) Llama / Pixie / Sandworm -- only good because the +adv means it's faster than the other familiars left. But they aren't that fun, not to mention you're really familiar with these . . . uh, familiars.
10) Doppelshifter -- for the pure insanity

3xNPZRs, starfish x5, BBB, WildHare, PBS, Slimelingsx3, +adv x 3, Doppel . . . well that's 18 of them. You're almost there. After 40 skills doing all these within 5-days should be trivial.

Familiars I thought would be fun but really weren't:

1) faeries -- fast, yes. fun no. Starved for MP / meat. Dandy Lion being the notable exception.
2) volleys -- stats don't really matter past day-1. And getting liver on day-1 isn't really advantageous.
3) He-boulder -- you quickly run out of things to ray.
4) Pet Rock -- Uh, yeah.

I did a lot of 100% runs for tourcore.

Then I got my He-Boulder.

And then I decided 99.9% runs weren't so bad.

This is the truth. I'm on Cocoabo now, and when I hit 150,000 meat without trying I thought hell with it - I'm doing GMS this run.

Okay, I find myself at an impasse.

I have one loop to go before my Black Cat BM capstone run. I am torn between two options:

1. Nemesis class familiars
2. Starfishes

2 would be super easy, but 1 has style. What to do?

Start with the nemesis familiar that's a starfish.

HA! That works.

Though I think I have been pushed in favor of a Nemesis concluding loop.

I have tried to apply this logic, but figuring as long as I had 90% it was fine, so did some spleen, some item drops, and the rays ... and I've got 4 runs of 89.x% because I suck at estimating.
