Age Of Jarlsberg: Basic Class Info

Post by lightwolf » Fri Feb 15, 2013 4:48 am

Jarlsberg 101:
This walkthru is dedicated to my second cousin Huckleberry, my grandma Dave, and my pet kitten Max.

Restrictions:
* Stomach Capacity starts at 10
* Liver Capacity starts at 9
* Can only eat special AoJ food that he makes himself. (Can't eat normal food drops)
* Can't use auto attack (Doesn't want to get hands dirty. must use spells)
* Can't use familiars (Instead use food companions)
* Can't use Fax
* Can't use Blankout (AHAHAHA)

Skill tree:
There are effectively four "skill trees". After taking the first rank in each tree, you have the choice to move on to the next rank in progression, or take an optional skill that does not Progress. Each tree is 5 skills 'deep' with optional skills at 2,3,4.

So each tree looks something like...

Code: Select all

1---2---3---4---5
  \ \ \
   a b c
Each tree is made up of the following traits:
* 2 Conjure food spells
* 2 Cooking based combat skills
* 1 Familiar (created out of food. Volly, +item, +ini, and +ML observed.)
* 1 turn gen skill (+food /booze capacity, more summons, Extra rollover adv)
* 1 Passive skill
* 1 Final Powerful turn reduction skill

The final skill in each tree is:
+Massive NC
+Massive Combat
+Monster level
+3 resist all sphere

Note: You start with 3 skill points to spend.

Cosmic Kitchen
In your cosmic kitchen, your current skills will give you access to recipes

Each recipe is made up of combinations of one of the 8 summon food types, and 1 of the 9 (+starting skill) cooking types.
* The kitchen also allows you to turn each food item into a chef staff.
* Advanced Chef staffs have powerful, limited use per day skills
* Not all cook + food recipes create an edible item.

There are also more advanced recipes which combine two of the other recipes. For instance, you can combine a hotdog bun, and a frankfurter to probably make a hotdog. This creates a food item of slightly better quality and larger capacity at the cost of lesser items.

Chef Staffs
Chef staffs can be created using the first and second tier food summons in each tree.

Code: Select all

Level 1 chef staffs (+10 spell damage, 2-4 mp regen)

* Potato - +5 DR, Jiggle weakens enemies
* Vegi - +15 ini, Jiggle deals cold damage
* fruit - +10 mox, jiggle deals prismatic damage
* Egg* - +15 HP, Jiggle restores hp

* Egg staff also has passive +10% item, and its hp restore occurs during a 'free round' of combat like saucy slave

Level 2 chef staffs (+50% spell damage, 5-6 mp regen)
* Meat - +15 DR, Jiggle gives Massive Bonus to Item Drops
* Cheese - +30 ini, Jiggle Banishes for rest of day
* Cream - +30 Mox, Jiggle "Attune to monster's essence"
* Dough* - +30 HP, Jiggle gives full HP recovery

*Dough staff also has passive 10-12 HP regen per turn
How do I mine Jarls?
Jarls skills don't just dictate what combat / utility skills are cast in run... they also dictate what food/booze you can make, and what familiars you can switch between as well. For instance, going straight for the NC skill will end up effecting what types and quality of food/booze you can make as well.

This is a sort of resource management that makes skill selection potentially more involved then just the use of the skill itself. Even at high perm skill levels, knowing how to resource a limited number of food items per day between consumables, utility staffs, and familiars will be interesting to see.

Jarlsberg 301: Food and You

* Your food options depend on what conjure and combat skills you have.
* Certain food skills are limited if you don't have the proper combat skill as well.
* Additional tier food can be made from proper combinations of 2 or more tier 1 or basic

Remember: Due to the limited quantities of food, It is possible to eat such that you have room left, but nothing to fill it with. 10 Stomach, 9 liver to start off with, 15/14 if you get the relevant skills. Eating, for example, would require 2x3 + 1x4 foods. Or 1x7 + 1x3.

For the following tables I am using these conventions:
* B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, S = Dinner ('Supper'), D = Desert
* 3 = 3 skills into tree. 3+ = Optional skill 3 points into tree
* If you are already 3 skills into a tree, then any 2+ or 3+ in that same tree only counts as +1

Jarlsberg extracurricular
Last Place holder.
I think all that is left to do is get some numbers on the companions, item drops, and food yield.

If you appreciate the info, layout, and presentation of this guide: feel free to donate or offer me gratuitous bribes in the form of "fragment of Jarlsberg's Soul". *wolf grin*

RE: Turn gen Suuuuuucks. (Skill Progression)
The number one advice for 0 skill people starting this path in terms of skill selection, will probably be to go for sublime stew. Turn gen is horrible otherwise, and can inflate day count by quite a bit.

The skill ordering would look like this.

Level 1: Vegi, Bake, Potato
Level 2: Boil
Level 3: Meat (Used for stew)
Level 4: Grill (High damage spell. Needed to complete stew)
Level 5: Best meal of the day

Use 2 vegi, and 1 potato to make your booze for the day. (Vodka and the saurkraut drink). This will give you 80 myst stat and bump you up to level 2 or 3. Then pick up Boil to kill things that have ML on them. Meat -> Grill to finally be able to make stew, and then try to wait to eat until level 5 with best meal.

The first 5-6 levels come the fastest, but after that levels come a lot more slowly. That makes the first 8 skills you take very important for your early turn gen. Having your next turn gen skill or Epic food recipie be two or three skills away could end up taking 2 days or more if you wind up with low turn gen.

The rest of the skills depends on day count / turn count goals, and what resources you have at your disposal.

Once you get about +4-6 skills permed, that means you can make epic food by level 6. So you can start considering shifting around those 3 epic foods to something that gives you access to different skills you might want.

Notes:
* There are NO food recipes made up of just the Breakfast and Lunch skills.

Adv yield passives:
Lunch like a King (+5 stomach): [+7, +15, +22, or +31 adv per day depending on food quality]
Most Important meal: [+12, +15, +18, or +21 adv per day depending on food quality]
Good Booze: [+13.5 vs Decent booze at 9 liver]
Never late: +10 per rollover
Nightcap (+5 Liver): [+7,+15 turns per day (decent/good booze*)]

*If you have more then one source of good booze, including the only good 4 liver drink.

Based on 92 rounds of combat, with 60 failed blocks, I think it's safe to say that the block rate of potato is 33%. That was with the +50% familiar effectiveness skill, on the off chance that that skill affects the block chance.

It's probably worth noting that the Chunky Mary is a 4-drunk booze, and (as far as I can tell) is the only such booze Jarlsberg can produce. 2 chunky mary + 2 bologna lambic + whatever nightcap seems to be a pretty good drinking plan.

Edit: Also, Bologna Lambic is the only "Good" booze that gives Myst gains.

I started working on a D1 consumption/skill plan for those of us cheating types who bought the bucket because we didn't want to grind out ascensions for a month. It looks to me like it will be eminently possible (after 1 hc ascension) to hit L5 in HC on day 1, turn 1.

Skills required (20):
Bake, Conjure Fruit, Freeze, Conjure Cream, Blend, Boil, Most Important Meal, Conjure Egg, Conjure Dough, Early Riser, Conjure Vegetable, Chop, Slice, Lunch Like a King, Food Coma, Fry, Conjure Cheese, Conjure Potato, Conjure Meat, Nightcap

Use either Bugbear Beanie + Hatter Buff or a Bright Water to boost initial MP to 30+ for summoning meat/cheese/dough/cream, and make sure to use the Myst shower for the +5% Myst gains. Food coma will allow for plenty of MP to do summons, and is probably not necessary, but I'm lazy and didn't want to spend all my starting meat with that fraud Galaktik.

Food 1 is an Omega Sundae - This should yield ~190 Myst, ~75 Muscle/Moxie, ~56 adventures. (2x cream, 1x dough, 1x fruit)
Food 2 is a Loaded Baked Potato - ~65 myst, ~25 moxie, ~35 adventures (1x potato, 1x cream, 1x meat, 1x cheese)
Food 3 is a Sauerkraut - ~33 myst, ~13 moxie, 1 adventure (1x vegetable)
Booze 1-3 are Bologna Lambic - ~125 myst, ~80 moxie, ~27 adventures (3x dough, 3x meat)
Booze 3+4(nightcap) are Chunky Mary - ~70 moxie, ~24 adventures (2x potato, 2x vegetable)
Total summon usage = (3x cream, 1x fruit, 4x dough, 3x potato, 4x meat, 1x cheese, 3x vegetable, 0x egg)
Total (estimated) substat gain: ~413 myst, ~75 muscle, ~266 moxie (~230 before nightcap)
Total (estimated) adventure gain: ~131 (+12 for nightcap)

This should put you just over what's necessary to make level 5 on turn 1. Drawbacks are that it leaves you with only a single cream and a single potato for companion summons, and no ability to summon a day 1 Staff of the All Steak or Staff of the Staff of Life, but since those require level 8 to use, I don't know that they're a priority for Day 1. These are also VERY rough estimates based on my 1-2 consumptions of these foods. I haven't tried this yet, so results not typical, your mileage may vary, caveat emptor, this way to the egress, and so forth.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've updated my booze section to separate out the 'Night caps'

Although I guess they aren't completely NC's, as some combination of 4 and 3's are needed to fill 15 (2x4, 2x3) before night cap.

With one bucket, I used mojo's day 1 consumables above and it worked out pretty well.

For day 2, I changed the baked potato to a breakfast sandwich so I could have enough cream for both the cream puff and the staff. Also switched the lambics to over easy riders since I had extra eggs and wanted a meat staff for f'cle.

It might add a second copy of the monster, or it might eliminate the rejection chance for that monster (one copy). Weaker than olfaction, but still effective.

Jarlsberg IotM Info:

Jarlsberg's Pan

Spell Damage +50%
Regenerate 8-10 MP per adventure
+50% Food Drops from Monsters
+2 Mysticality Stat(s) Per Fight
Damage Reduction: 30 (First Hit Only)
+1 Food Conjuration

[shake pan] option is like [twist horns] and adds

"Converts dropped food and booze into Cosmic Calories"

When equipped, it converts all dropped food and booze items into a number of Cosmic Calories equal to the items size times the items quality (where crappy = 1, decent = 2, and so on). Quest related food/booze items are not converted. So far, this has been tested to include Goat Cheese, Stunt Nuts, Dusty Bottles, Hot Wings. Feel free to suggest others to test or simply post them here.

Cosmic Calories are usable in quantity to produce 4 different potions. Each potion lasts for 10 turns. They are:

20 Cosmic Calories = Celestial Olive Oil - +1 Prismatic Resist
30 Cosmic Calories = Celestial Carrot Juice - +30% Item Find
50 Cosmic Calories = Celestial Au Jus - +5% combat
60 Cosmic Calories = Celestial Squid Ink - -5% combat

So...yeah...this make hardcore easier?
