Random Azazel Spading

Post by lordhades15 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 12:32 am

So, while doing a casual run, I had some interesting results. I green smoke bombed friar combats while doing the Azazel quest, and got the following results (note - I didn't count the skipped combats before Hey Deze, but it was somewhere around 5; also, I didn't spend any turns anywhere else between completing the friars quest and starting Azazel's quest):

Skipped 4-5 combats
155 - Hey Deze map
Skipped 1-2 more combats
Follow, etc.
Skipped <5 combats
156 - First Azazel Item
Skipped exactly *9* combats
157 - Second Azazel Item
Skipped exactly *9* combats
158 - Third Azazel item
159-164 - Fought Combats
165 - Follow, etc. - got Steel Margarita

Note: All turns above were spent in the friar's zone.

Conclusions:
-based on these results, I didn't need to actually expend turns between Azazel items, just run up an arbitrary counter.
-also of note, between Azazel items, the Follow, etc adventure didn't appear at all. You must actually expend 10 turns to trigger that adventure.

Someone with more maths will explain this more. Enjoy ;)

I think this was already known, but I had a multi conveniently placed to re-test:

- Azazel's items are based on Gate encounters only (skipped or not). Unfortunately, skipping the "Follow" non-combat won't increment the counter.
- The "Follow" encounter is based on turn-count only. Spend 10 turns doing anything and it will be ready for you on return.

OK, I know I'm a bit thick, but does this mean that optimal adventureness is...?

Adventure until Azazel item 1
Adventure until Azazel item 2
Make note of when you get the *follow* non-com. Set a counter to 10
Adventure until Azazel item 3
Adventure elsewhere.
When counter hits 0, adventure in the friar's.

(God I suck at this game so hard.)

That's correct. There's no reason to adventure in the friars after getting the 3rd azazel item, you can skip a few turns and return to get the "follow" demon on your first adventure. Provided you know how to count...worst case, come back 10 turns later.

Okay this is a little odd: I didn't get a follow between the lollipop and the tutu.

Code: Select all

[255] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Hellion

[256] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Bureaucracy of the Damned

[256] Friar's Gate
Encounter: It's a Good Ship!
You acquire an item: Azazel's lollipop

I suspect this was the problem.

Code: Select all

[257] Friar's Gate
Encounter: L imp

[258] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Demoninja

[259] Friar's Gate
Encounter: W imp

[260] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Demoninja

[261] Friar's Gate
Encounter: G imp

[262] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Hellion

[263] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Hellion

[264] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Fallen Archfiend

[265] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Hellion

[266] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Going Ballet Up
You acquire an item: Azazel's tutu

hmm, I guess there's no counter for me to count -- so I'll just keep doing this zone.

btw: I'm in bird form and have olfed Hellions. (if that matters).

Next adventure was Follow. I guess it's a stroke of confusing luck.

Hmm... I had discounted this strategy as not working, since I've used my navel ring to get free runaways and never had the "Follow" adventure show up. Silly me never even tried it for the Azazel items, which would end up the same. Just requires me to have a little more foresight on when I'm running out of turns. Sweet.

Sorry, Brulak, didn't see your question until now. No. No welcome back.

We recently (~the last 2 weeks) noticed that the counter mechanism must have changed slightly. It's been confirmed that Welcome back no longer advances the counter in the Friar's Gate (so much for that single-turn saving strategy). The same apparently holds true for the Leavesdropping adventure (although there is only a one person data set on this one, what with it's low occurence rate).

So I guess (For the Nardo log) that it is possible that the 2 azazel-nc's didn't/no longer count for the Bureaucracy counter, haven't looked into the bureaucracy counter yet.

Also, beware, this WB "fix" may or may not apply to any other counters WB previously interacted with.

I'm not sure where to post this, but I've received an unexpected result on the Azazel's quest, so I figured I'd add it to the old spading thread...

My understanding of the known behavior is that Bureaucracies are a set distance apart, while the Azazel's items can be affected by runaways. This last run, however, using runaways, I got a Gate, followed by an Azazel item, followed by a Gate.

End of day 3:

Code: Select all

[188] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Bureaucracy of the Damned
choice.php?pwd&whichchoice=161&option=4

[188] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Fallen Archfiend
Round 0: maddsurgeon wins initiative!
Round 1: maddsurgeon casts RETURN!
You acquire an item: sugar shard (2)

use 2 sugar shard
You gain 24 hit points
You gain 12 Mojo Points

Visiting Doc Galaktik

Restore 3 MP at Doc Galaktik's
You gain 3 Mojo Points
You spent 51 Meat

cast 1 Empathy of the Newt

equip hat leather mask

[188] Friar's Gate
Encounter: P imp
Round 0: maddsurgeon wins initiative!
Round 1: maddsurgeon casts RETURN!

Visiting Crimbo Tree in clan VIP lounge

Visiting Pool Table in clan VIP lounge

pool aggressive

[188] Friar's Gate
Encounter: We're on a Bridge!
You acquire an item: Azazel's unicorn

[189] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Demoninja
Round 0: maddsurgeon loses initiative!
You lose 7 hit points
Round 1: maddsurgeon casts RETURN!

Unequip He-Boulder

Equip Frumious Bandersnatch with sugar shield

[189] Friar's Gate
Encounter: G imp
Round 0: maddsurgeon loses initiative!
Round 1: maddsurgeon casts RETURN!

[189] Friar's Gate
Encounter: G imp
Round 0: maddsurgeon wins initiative!
Round 1: maddsurgeon casts RETURN!
...cutting out end of day/beginning of day stuff...

Beggining of day 4:

Code: Select all

[189] Friar's Gate
Encounter: Bureaucracy of the Damned
choice.php?pwd&whichchoice=161&option=4
The next Bureaucracy showed up on adventure 199 as expected.

But I find this odd. Maybe it have something to do with the fact that I ran out of adventures and logged off? Is it possible the counter resets at the end of the day?
