Physical Resistance and rounding

Post by QuantumNightmare » Thu May 08, 2008 12:44 am

I'm curious how partial physically resistant monsters round damage. This has a practical use, since in the monster stat project I use barehanded damage readings to test monster defence. Anything that reduces this defence (such as a percent reduction) must be factored into the calculations for accuracy.

Test: Kegtanks (50%), kegriders (25%), sweat lodges (50%) and dread squads (25%) all have some level of physical resistance. Use a divine combat item to deal a non-varying amount of damage equal to any odd buffed stat (as opposed to even), and see how much damage is dealt to these monsters.

If you use an odd buffed stat, then rounding will come into play. We can then see if rounding is random, weighted, floored or ceilinged.

Test results:
951 buffed stat -> 476 damage
951 buffed stat -> 714 damage
951 buffed stat -> 714 damage
209 buffed stat -> 105 damage
201 buffed stat -> 101 damage
201 buffed stat -> 101 damage
201 buffed stat -> 151 damage
201 buffed stat -> 151 damage

In all cases damage was rounded up. Unfortunately, my sample size is very small. Can someone collect more data for this? I can send some divine items if needed.
