New bathroom (2009-07-16 update)

Post by greycat » Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:07 pm

I need more data. This is what I have right now, and I hope I didn't neglect to record any of the combats. I feel like I might have missed a combat or two, so the combat/noncombat ratio may not be perfect.

Data set 1: 78 turns

ycymccyycoccmccuuucyccomcccccmyucoccmmcccyycccccumcccmucyccuyccyuucoocccmccccm

y=(154:268 154:268 155:254 155:266 156:239 157:249 158:243 158:254 158:273 159:251 159:228 )
m=(154:187 155:190 156:188 157:185 157:187 157:185 158:187 158:190 160:196 160:193 )
o=(155:123 156:123 157:125 159:131 159:128 )
u=(155:130 155:136 155:121 157:125 158:122 158:127 159:129 159:125 159:116 )

The first line is the adventures I got: 'c'ombat, m'y'st, m'u'scle, m'o'xie, or 'm'irror choice adventure. I didn't distinguish among combats.

The 'y' array is what I got from each m'y'st boost. Each element is mainstat:myst_received. (My main stat happens to be moxie at the moment. So, the first myst boost I got was 268 myst, at main stat 154.) Likewise, 'o' is moxie, 'u' is muscle, and 'm' is the mirror.

Data set 1 was done with -15% combats (smooth, sonata, conflict), except for possibly 1 or 2 turns where I forgot to refresh sonata (yeah, I suck).

Combats: 43/78 (55%)
Myst: 11/78 (14%)
Mirror: 10/78 (13%)
Moxie: 5/78 (6%)
Muscle: 9/78 (12%)

Now let's go set that ballroom song and try to do this a little better....

Yeah, see, this is why I suck: I can say "Now let's do X..." and then not do it. Even though it's only, like, 90 seconds later. This happens to me a lot.

Data set 2: still -15% combats.

This data may not be in a helpful format, but it's what I've got.

I ran thru here as a moxie class on a non-stat day, boosting non-combats 15% (sonata, conflict, rock salt) and carrying an antique hand mirror

When I started:
Mus: 240 (202)
Mys: 209 (175)
Mox: 268 (233)

Finished at:
Mus: 229 (208)
Mys: 221 (200)
Mox: 302 (241)

I spent 67 turns, 43 of which were non-combats, 2 of the combats were rock homunculus. For combats I was running +ML and had a sombrero.

The encounters and specific non-combats broke down as follows:

Encounter Listing:
Noncombat: Don't Hold a Grudge (28)
Noncombat: Having a Medicine Ball (15)
Combat: claw-foot bathtub (22)
Combat: malevolent hair clog (21)
Combat: rock homunculus (2)
Combat: toilet papergeist (22)

I don't have much new data, but interest in this seems to have tapered off (especially given a rumored radio-show announcement that there might be another bathroom change upcoming). So let's take a look at what we do have.

Also, I'll throw in a single data point: mirror adventure, choice #1, no hand mirror in inventory, main stat 175, yielding 175 mysticality.

Given this, and some anecdotal evidence (not included), it seems the mirror works something like this: With hand mirror, 1.2*mainstat capped at 300. Without hand mirror, 1.0*mainstat capped at 200.

Now, the muscle/moxie noncombats. These appear to use a variable cap, like the one in the castle. My main stat was too high throughout my spading to derive a multiplier, but there are enough data points to give me a handle on the cap. I've got a minimum yield of 114, and a maximum yield of 136. One theory which fits this data set is: Cap of 125 +/- 11. I'll go with that for now, by Jick's Razor (simplest theory that fits the data, and uses the number 11).

Finally, the myst noncombat (shower). I'll assume that I'm hitting a variable cap here as well, and that all my data points were hitting the cap. This gives me 29 data points, minimum 228, maximum 273. The midpoint of that range is 250 (nice round number), with a variance of +/- 23 (a KOL magic number). So, tentatively(!), I'll go with: Cap of 250 +/- 23.

What we still need at this point:
  • Low-mainstat data, so we can figure out the multipliers.
  • Additional data, to support the theories (or shoot them down if necessary). Sample sizes are much too low.
  • Check whether overall combat rate is still 75%.
  • Check whether individual noncombats are still 2:2:1:1 ratio (mirror, myst, moxie, muscle).

I'm happy to do 1000 advs on my multi to check the bottom 2, however he is too high level to do low-mainstat data. I'll begin today, want me to update in stages or all at the end?

Post-October-2nd spading!

This trial is attempting to determine adventure frequencies only -- I did not record stat gains, item drops, or any other data.

Configuration: level 24 TT, Blender, Ballroom song on noncombats, green pixie, NO ring of conflict, NO smooth/sonata/musk/carl. (Overall combat modifier: -5%.)

396 adventures recorded in the Haunted Bathroom. One of these (the second) was the towel, so discard that one. That leaves 395 adventures recorded. Actual data (including the towel):

Code: Select all

GTMbhGhGMthbbGbPMbMGthMGPbbGhthMMhtbbbhbthbMhbbbtthhbtMbthGbhtthbMbhbMthGttGbMb
hthtbGMhhtttGhGMGhbhhMGMGbGGGGbhtbtbbtbMthhttPbhttthGbbGtGbbbhttGhhMbMbbhbGthGMM
GhMGMMhbhMthtMbbhMhtMGtbhttMGhhbbbGGtMMttthbhbhbGhGtbbtGGGhhtbGtbbMhhttMhGMhhPbb
GtthhGMbhMGbMtMbGMthMMGhthbhbMbMbbGhMthbtbbthtMhMtGbhbhbbtGGbtMGhhthbbtbthGhthMM
bMtttbthtGbbMbthMGMGhbbbthMhhttbtthGGGGGhttbthhhGMMtbbMGhGtbbtthbMtGthbbGbtMt

Where T=Towel, G=Grudge, M=MedicineBall, P=PipesAren'tClean, b=bathtub, h=hairclog, t=toiletpapergeist.

Breakdown:

Code: Select all

G: 63
M: 59
P: 4
b: 95
h: 88
t: 86

4 demon name adventure (P) out of 395 points to a 1% "superunlikely" rate, but the sample size is much, much too small to conclude that with any certainty. If we discard the 4 "P"s then we're left with 391 combat and noncombat adventures.

Combats: 269/391 = 69%
Noncombats: 122/391 = 31%

Adjusted for ballroom song:
Combats: 74%
Noncombats: 26%

Each noncombat appears to be equally likely. Each monster appears to be equally likely.
