Don Crimbo's Fundraising Drive

Post by Eleron » Tue Dec 08, 2009 1:19 am

Every day, each choice is assigned a value, and your meat earned is based on multiplying together the values of your choices.

Meat earned = location * sustenance * incentive, modified by rng

(Since everything is multiplied together, only the ratios are really important if you multiply them with some base, but I've just picked some values that don't need one.)

Approximate values for some days:

Code: Select all

Date: Right side, Mall, Market   /  Cocoa, Sandwiches, Coolers  /  Signs, Caroling, Candy

Dec 1: 20, 50, 30  /  20, 15, 10  /  15, 10, 20
Dec 2: 45, 30, 50  /  15, 20, 20  /  10, 20, 15
Dec 3: 30, 15, 60  /  10, 15, 20  /  20, 10, 10
Dec 4: 40, 20, 50  /  10, 15, 20  /  10, 20, 15
Dec 5: 20, 65, 30  /  20, 15, 10  /  10, 20, 15
Dec 6: 60, 40, 20  /  15, 20, 20  /  20, 10, 10
...
Dec 7: 50, 45, 40  /  15, 20, 20  /  15, 10, 20
Dec 8: 25, 70, 35  /  20, 15, 10  /  15, 10, 20
Dec 9: 45, 25, 70  /  10, 15, 20  /  10, 20, 15

(This isn't really news, but went through it myself and found exactly the same stuff as others apparently had. I haven't looked at the dec 7+ stuff myself, just copied it as a convenience from http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key= ... OYlE&hl=en)

Obvious n00b question: how does one determine the right choice to select? I've read the newspaper every day, but I don't find that it gives much of a hint on anything except weather.

I am pretty bad at picking up on subtlety, though, so maybe I've missed something that others haven't.

They've been getting significantly more obvious. Today's is the mall because of all the zombie movies where they're barricaded in malls. The weather is also fairly obvious, just because the rock is "always" right (I don't actually know that it is, but it's what people say). The other one is trickier, could be candy because of the line in the main article, but it could be something else too (I like signs, why? "To beat the zombies").

Or caroling so you don't hear the groaning of the zombies (or scare them away with it?) *note: me sucks at collecting meat for the Don so far*

Based on the barricaded-in-a-mall zombie movie, they're only loud if they're breaking into the room where you're at, and at that point music isn't going to calm you down. It's either signs to keep people informed and calm, or candy to distract the kids, and as far as I'm concerned you have to read skully's mind to know which it is.

I figured zombies in the mall would mean people would avoid the mall.

yeah I was thinking barricading in the mall, and using signs as stakes for protection :)

I went with Mall, Cocoa, and Signs, but it seems too obvious. I fully expect to be completely wrong tomorrow: "Fearing the large crowds and many points of entry into the mall, the mortal citizens of loathing take shelter in the gourd tower. There, drunk on wine coolers, Don Crimbo's hobos regale them with boisterous caroling until they're paid to stop."

I hope they post the algorithm after Crimbo. I hope it's narrative. If instead it's random and they retrofit the narrative I'm going to be disappointed -- just in case i have a multi who is just picking the same thing every day. 60k so far.

It only makes sense retrofit regardless, as "nobody is going to the mall" ought not mean "everybody is going to the mall."

Zombies are everywhere, not specifically at the mall. Non-zombies will go to the mall to be safe.

I was referring to one of the first newspapers, which said that nobody was going to the mall. The "correct" choice that day was the mall, and the following day's paper revealed that everyone decided to go to the mall.

I kinda thought since they said "mall" it was a pretty clear indicator that something was up.

Thoughts on today? My first thought was that people would avoid the Market, cause, y'know...naked cold people, ew. But maybe I'm overthinking it.

The newspaper said fountain, so I went market. It also mentions protesters (or something to that effect), so signs seemed logical. Good chance the paper has something about a protest tomorrow complaining about mr. shrinky dink.

Everybody wants to see the public scandal of "an ugly naked man taking a bath in OUR fountain" first hand. So marketplace it is. I mean, the weirdos who take public dumps in frozen rivers on New Year's Day get more and more media coverage, too, with each year...

I think this guy might be onto something with the rock-paper-scissors nature of the Satellite Imagery. (Cold prediction for warm weather, warm for chilly, chilly for cold.)

So when Skully said it's not a puzzle, what he really meant was that it's a puzzle.

Apparently. You see the article in today's paper about how the weather system worked?
