This is my best run to date, and although I'm happy with my progress recently, I still have room for a lot of improvement, given my skills. I summarized three areas that I see big improvement needs in at the end of the log. Any help in those areas, or pointers on anything else, would very much appreciated!

This run had mainstat days on 1 & 2, and Day 3 was El Dia de los Muertos Borrachos.

I started by summoning 2 apple stickers and 1 mainstat garnish. Without any apple stickers, my day 1s are terrible.

So far, so good, but this is where I started to flounder. I really wanted to try sewer levelling, but that required finding a shield. I tried to open the battlefield, but couldn't hit with the grave robbing shovel equipped. Fine, I went looking for a clown skin, which completely refused to drop. (Is there something I don't know about with clown skins??) I finally went back to the cemetary with a potion and got the grave next turn and the cola shield in three turns on battlefield. The booze from the fun house was really useful, and I would've gone there a bit later for boxes anyway, so my shield search wasn't exactly wasted, but it felt like it at the time.

Now for the exciting sewer tunnel! Phorce was still active, I used what buffs & items I had, and... it didn't quite work. I survived five rounds but only took out about half the fish's HP before bailing out. I thought it was a free runaway, but the log caught it as a turn, so I'm not sure. Well, educational experience anyway.

For the first time, I managed to make it to level 9, with the pirate outfit, in time for my third semirare. I was a lot smarter with my absinthe levelling this run than I've been in the past, interspersing it better with my normal adventuring, rather than waiting until I needed to powerlevel and interspersing it with the ballroom, and it really paid off.

I started to do some levelling at the end of the day, but I decided to bank turns and finish the next day, after I saw how far my two remaining airs took me.
The plexiglass pith helm is amazing, by the way! I was really loaded up with buffs from all the MP!

I had forgotten that since I played so many turns yesterday, I needed to eat a fortune cookie right away. It was unbelievably lucky that I happened onto my semirare on my first turn in the castle. In general, I think there are three big ways for me to improve. One is, of course, to make fewer mistakes- be more careful of buffs running out, remember to switch familiar as soon as I should, don't misclick, just generally pay more attention to detail.

Secondly, I need to plan when things should happen in my run better- space out things that need olfaction correctly; be ready to take best advantage of the next semirare; use absinthes at the best time, etc.

The biggest thing, though, doesn't exactly show up in the log. I think I'm ending the ascension with way too many resources left. I never use all my divines, love songs, Bander runaways, and so on. I always have a bunch of meat left over, too. Do I need to be riskier? Level up more aggressively at more difficult areas? Heh, just run antiphon more, even! I permed aria from this run, so that should help, but I think there's more to it. The first couple of days, I'm using all my resources, trying to get to level six, then liver. Then I hit my dictionary money and I'm on easy street. How can I push myself harder in the mid to late run?

Based on my experience (which isn't in HC, although I appear to be working on that), using Aria consistently now that you have it permed will take a decent-sized bite out of your available resources, between running it and doing whatever you need to do to handle the extra ML.

Just a couple of disjointed thoughts, but I hope they're helpful.

Muscle only adds damage if its higher than the monster's defense, so buffing it for the sewers doesn't help.

If you have extra meat, you should be casting Empathy more. It's a significant bonus for item familiars, and you can afford it with the sombrero in the late game.

The ballroom is a bit inconvenient if you only need one or two stat points, but it still beats the bombed-out camp for leveling to 13. Using gongs/absinthe/dance cards during the battlefield is, of course, better than after. You can estimate expected stat gains pretty accurately since it takes a set number of turns. There's also donating in the Hall of Legends if you're only a little short.

I hadn't been regularly running any more ML than the MCD until lately, so the implications of (muscle - ML) sort of sailed past me when I looked at the damage formula in the past. I'm really glad you pointed it out to me, because that's going to impact more than sewer leveling.
If you have extra meat, you should be casting Empathy more. It's a significant bonus for item familiars, and you can afford it with the sombrero in the late game.
I was disappointed after I permed empathy, because it's so expensive! The only buffing weapon worth upgrading is the accordion, right? Upgraded turtle totem or not, though, I do tend to have lots of meat in the late game, so I'll plan on more empathy next time.

I have some work to do! I'm finding lots of assumptions and habits that I formed when I wasn't as interested in going fast. It's definitely going to be an ongoing project to reexamine equipment, buffs, and, well, everything, and root out the assumptions. In addition, there's the whole new project that I'm just getting into: knowing how many stat points I need and where I expect them to come from at each level.

I'm having more fun than ever with KoL now that I'm working harder on going fast. Thanks to everyone for all the little and big pointers, here and elsewhere.

if you are getting the KGE, you should oxydrop for it. getting seltzer early is really nice, especially for handling your meat.

speaking of handling your meat, if you have a good stock of it, then investing in pet buffing spray and learning pills would be a decent consideration.

Another person that doesn't know much about HC, but Serra barely got to level 9 in time for ASCII. If oxy-dropping means that the third semi-rare isn't very useful, then perhaps not oxy-dropping is the better move for now (though possibly not long term).

Oxydropping is always worth doing in hardcore as far as I know. Earlier kge means running more buffs/ml/etc. earlier and increases your available resources by a lot since you aren't a slave to doc galaktik.

I run empathy for nearly the entire run with nothing but a turtle totem. It can pay for itself using a GGG or hobo.

As for ending runs with a bunch of extra summons, start using them. You'll learn how many you need to save for important areas through trial and error. It depends on how many/what type you typically summon. I can't tell you any exact formula for that.

There are a few big chunks of meat you need to plan for, such as buying your wand and the forged documents, but you shouldn't be ending the run with a lot. Good suggestions for what to spend it on have been given already.

This link has a good description of sewer levelling. You need all three damage stickers.
