Archham's 3/543 HC Nuclear Autumn

Post by Archham » Tue Nov 15, 2016 5:58 pm

It’s been a few years since I’ve posted a log anywhere, but I thought I'd put this one up in case anyone might find it of interest!

I must admit that I started the season not really expecting to be very competitive, hence a few early 100% runs whilst unlocking shelter levels. However, after 2 months and the arrival of the Tot, it surprised me that no one had cracked the 3-day HC barrier so I thought I’d give it a try. It took me three 4-day runs to hit on a strategy and get over some poor RNG (all the usual horror stories: 50-turn Airship, 19-turn war start, a complete absence of Astronomers, no scroll of AFUE from the gnat, etc, etc)… but I finally got there!

General points:
  • Moonsign = marmot for turn-saving clovers (sonars / ore / bridge parts / WAND)
  • I went AT to synergise with marmot and for the additional +% stats granted to ATs in NA. Pickpocket was irrelevant since I never had enough +init to counteract the ML penalties and get the jump on anything
  • Astral gear = statuette for the turngen, but in hindsight it was unnecessary. That said, the pet sweater would hardly have been used, so I am not sure what would have been better
  • I thought through all manner of permutations of floundry gear for bridge parts and pixels. I wanted to use the golem for a dowsing rod (saves around 9 turns over a compass) instead of bridge parts, so I ended up going with 3x hatchets and making the unusual decision to use 2x Day 1 digitizes on bloopers (plus a duplicate) to farm all white pixels manually whilst getting the submarine parts. It felt less horrible than other ways in which I had tried to order things, although without opening the second floor until Day 2 you are certainly running it close to obtain 50 yellow pixels before you no longer have places to go
  • Day 1 deck = mickey mantle for turn 1 wristboy / tower / stats. It would have been good to replace stats with ore, but stats can be tight for reaching some essential levelling targets to fit in digitizes further down the line. Depending on circumstances, wristboy is either running constant +ML or +% stats unless I want +noncombats or +items
  • Cowboy boots are +ML and +rollover adv
  • Starting skills are +ML, the two +DA/+DR skills to help manage the ML, and the stun. I kept ML as high as possible until I’d finished flyering
  • The time spinner is used purely for food on Day 1. On Days 2 and 3 I replicate tea, but then I use the DMT to duplicate a tea to free up three potential time spinner combats across Days 2 and 3 that I could use subject to circumstances. One was always going to be used on a dairy goat, but I was keeping the others open for maybe a blooper, a shaman, an LFM... whatever was needed situationally
  • No helpful items came from the globe: food was either too big or too old, and potions were underwhelming... cranberry cordial was never going to be a game breaker at the nuns :)

+> [14] Got yellow pixel
[15] 8-Bit Realm [8,13,12]
+> [15] Got yellow pixel
I get a blooper turn 6 and immediately digitize. I was only expecting to get one and then time spin another on Day 2 or 3, but I get lucky and another comes along at turn 10. I have to stay around a bit longer to get enough blue pixels, but a Keese on turn 15 means I’m done. I need 4 digitized bloopers and a duplicate to get the remaining pixels; throughout the rest of today I'll funnel them all into the Outskirts. Indeed, I don’t open the Knob until Day 3 so I miss out on Screege, but meat management isn’t really an issue, even on Day 1, thanks to autoselling all the unusable barrel drops that keep raining down!
-> Turn [15] Trick-or-Treating Tot

+> [35] Got tree-holed coin
+> [36] Got Spooky Temple map
+> [38] Got Spooky-Gro fertilizer
+> [39] Got spooky sapling
I get some RNG love in Degrassi Knoll, but that's wiped out by 10 turns in the Spooky Forest before the superlikely appears! I wonder if I should have spent one turn in the zone before forcing my portscanned agents in there, perhaps it made delay() do something strange? Or perhaps its just the far more traditional bad RNG... At least the other 4 noncombats appear very quickly afterwards to make up for it...

I then make a really stupid mistake. I carefully buy and use the Pigs holo-record, eat a Tea, then stare at the screen wondering why it gave me just 12 adventures. I consider angrily submitting a bug report before realising that it probably would have been sensible just to have bought the gall bladder mutation before eating. :oops: I do that before eating anything else...

o> Drank 1 iced plum wine (22 adventures gained) [0,0,12]
Ugh, even with +29% noncombat the Friars seems to take forever: 28 turns and I’m still not finished. I leave at turn 70 to avoid hitting an SR by mistake. I would have saved more of the Elbow for tomorrow (for a chance at ninja Tot gear) but I need to spend the turns now to get a digitized writing desk before nightcapping.

I did contemplate going for the Outskirts SR, but decide I would rather keep the zone open for digitized monsters, especially since I have two desks to push in there tomorrow before any other delay() areas become available.

At this point I’m a good 10 turns behind my 3/551 run so I’m not enormously confident, and I’m still kicking myself over the gall bladder mistake. However, I have all my bloopers and I have two writing desks, so I’m making progress. I also remember that I had poor RNG above the beanstalk on my last run, so I know I can make back the turns if things go better tomorrow.

Anyway, time to bank turns and nightcap; this means I can get ghostly reins first thing tomorow for all of Day 2 – not essential, but marginally useful for those few things the Tot cannot do - and it will also give me another 10 snojo fights to get me closer to 50 yellow pixels. Besides, it’s taken me around 2.5hrs to play today's turns, it’s 2am and I’m shattered.
Day 2
===Day 2===
Day 2 deck is all very standard: tower / ore / sheep. Obviously I switch the snojo to Myst as soon as I get the training helmet. Overall plan for the day is just to make it to the end of the Hidden Apartment so I know how to use my time-spinner: will I need to use it today on a shaman, or can I get shamans naturally, use the spinner to eat, and then give myself two time-spinner combats tomorrow?
[72] Deck of Every Card [0,0,0]

[101] The Dark Elbow of the Woods [0,0,0]
+> [101] Got eldritch butterknife
[102] Friar Ceremony Location [0,0,0]
-> Turn [102] Oily Woim
OK, so all of the above was about getting the final writing desks and yellow pixels. I had to do the tavern cellar to pad out turns between writing desks; I would have liked to have used the purse rat + ghostly reins, but I really needed the yellow pixels. Still, even with +116ML, I get lucky: three tangles. This pays off enormously at the end of Day 3 since it lets me use loads of free runs at the Upper and Middle Chamber, which repays several turns I had earlier lost to poor RNG.

The DMT turn is to duplicate an earl grey so I can time-spin a dairy goat. Of course, the net effect is exactly the same as duplicating a cheese and time-spinning a meal, but doing it this way around does give me a few extra stats from fighting the goat, and gives me an actual earl grey in my inventory that I can use tomorrow if necessary.

Next goal is to get a modern zmobie ASAP so I can fit in all 4 digitizes before Level 11. I use the barrel pants, a +init abstraction and an oily woim filled with dog chow and boosted by the reins:
[102] The Defiled Alcove [14,9,29]
Yay, first turn! :D

+> [136] Got bottle of rum
[138] Cap'm Caronch's Map [26,19,38]
18 turns in Barrrney’s. This was very irritating, especially when my 3/551 had only taken 9 turns here. Even more annoyingly, I had 7 insults and still failed the first beer pong! Bah, stupid pirates. :(
[139-141] The Defiled Cranny [62,57,84]
@> Learned: Internal Soda Machine (Turn 139)
[142] Barrrney's Barrr [0,0,0]

+> [167] Got yellow pixel
+> [168] Got yellow pixel
=> Level 10 (Turn 168)! (53/50/85)
All of this was my pushing to Level 10 by running down the Spookyraven delay(), clearing the F’c’le, trapping the Conservatory ghost and fighting the scaling monsters in the DMT. The grill helps boost returns in a few places. Occasional single turns in Spookyraven are returning zmobies.
[169-196] The Penultimate Fantasy Airship [413,402,1008]
+> [172] Got soft green echo eyedrop antidote
+> [173] Got metallic A

-> Turn [169] Trick-or-Treating Tot
@> Learned: Self-Combing Hair (Turn 182)
I’m lucky and get both the amulet and the wig – last run I missed the wig, which cost me a few turns.
[197-199] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Basement) [50,49,185]
+> [199] Got heavy D
-> Turn [199] Galloping Grill

-> Turn [200] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[201-204] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Basement) [67,55,159]
+> [203] Got Ghost Dog Chow
I was a bit annoyed at spending 7 turns in the Basement despite running +29% noncombat! Oh well. Once the Ground Floor is open, I decide to finish opening the Ballroom before returning to the Castle.

[205-206] The Haunted Bathroom [27,24,71]
+> [205] Got Ghost Dog Chow
-> Turn [206] Galloping Grill
[207] The Haunted Kitchen [21,21,44]

@> Learned: Metallic Skin; Boiling Tear Ducts (Turn 207)
[207-208] The Haunted Bathroom [27,29,73]
+> [208] Got Lady Spookyraven's powder puff
[209-212] The Haunted Gallery [43,64,168]
+> [211] Got hot ashes
+> [212] Got Lady Spookyraven's dancing shoes
-> Turn [210] Galloping Grill
-> Turn [211] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[213] The Haunted Ballroom [110,111,145]
o> Ate 1 Tea, Earl Grey, Hot (19 adventures gained) [16,17,17]
-> Turn [213] Galloping Grill
[214] The X-32-F Combat Training Snowman [23,14,41]
o> Ate 1 ice rice (21 adventures gained) [0,10,0]
-> Turn [214] Puck Man
[214] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Ground Floor) [0,0,0]
+> [214] Got electric boning knife
\o/ This allows me to switch from the Tot to the Puck to get a power pill, then to the Intergnat to start trying for thin black candles: I want to be able to summon the meat demon tomorrow, I reckon it saves around 8-10 turns in HCNA.
[215-219] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Ground Floor) [95,96,190]
+> [215] Got yellow pixel
+> [216] Got yellow pixel
+> [217] Got yellow pixel
+> [218] Got power pill, yellow pixel
o> Used 1 very overdue library book [86,77,97]
-> Turn [218] Intergnat
[220] Rest in your Cryo-Sleep Chamber [0,0,0]
[221-225] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Ground Floor) [97,91,192]
+> [222] Got Ghost Dog Chow
+> [224] Got thin black candle
-> Turn [225] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[226-228] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Top Floor) [0,0,0]
@> Learned: Steroid Bladder (Turn 228)
A perfect Top Floor! Another reason for using the Intergnat a few turns back was to try for the +noncombat buff, which I get on turn 224. This meant I was running +30% noncombat here; obviously this is significantly better than the lowly +29% I was running in the Castle Basement to such poor affect a few turns earlier!
[229-234] The Hole in the Sky [150,159,345]
+> [229] Got line x 3
+> [230] Got star x 3
+> [231] Got line, star, star
+> [232] Got line, line, star
+> [233] Got Ghost Dog Chow, star chart
+> [234] Got line, line, star, star
This is more like it, a perfect HitS too. On my 3/551 run I spent 18 turns looking for an Astronomer, so I’m no longer that far behind my previous pace. This gives me some renewed hope.

Now I’m around 800 substats from Level 11; there are just enough stats available to get there by finishing the Cyrpt and using the Bonerdagon chest:
[235-241] The Defiled Nook [114,87,266]
+> [235] Got evil eye, skeleton bone, smart skull
+> [236] Got evil eye, loose teeth, skeleton bone
+> [237] Got Xiblaxian alloy, evil eye, skeleton bone, smart skull
+> [238] Got evil eye, loose teeth, loose teeth, skeleton bone
+> [239] Got evil eye, skeleton bone, smart skull
+> [240] Got evil eye x 4, skeleton bone
+> [241] Got hot ashes, skeleton bone x 3
-> Turn [240] Galloping Grill
[242] The Defiled Cranny [19,20,28]
@> Learned: Flappy Ears; Extra Brain (Turn 242)
[243] The X-32-F Combat Training Snowman [8,25,47]
+> [243] Got bowl of marinade
[243] The Defiled Alcove [25,28,70]
[244] The Defiled Cranny [30,28,65]
+> [244] Got hot ashes
[245] Haert of the Cyrpt [68,39,97]
+> [245] Got anticheese, bowl of marinade, chest of the Bonerdagon, skull of the Bonerdagon
+> [245] Got vertebra of the Bonerdagon
o> Used 1 chest of the Bonerdagon [195,195,210]
=> Level 11 (Turn 245)! (67/65/104)
-> Turn [245] Reassembled Blackbird
[246-249] The Black Forest [64,65,130]
+> [249] Got broken wings
-> Turn [249] Grimstone Golem
[250-251] The Haunted Ballroom [38,36,50]
I’m back in the Haunted Ballroom here to pick up another returning modern zmobie. The counter expiry was off by one, not sure why.
o> Drank 2 astral pilsner (66 adventures gained) [15,25,29]
-> Turn [251] Reassembled Blackbird
[252-262] The Black Forest [170,161,381]
+> [255] Got beehive
+> [257] Got Ghost Dog Chow, sunken eyes
-> Turn [257] Jumpsuited Hound Dog
[263] The Shore, Inc. Travel Agency [0,0,0]
-> Turn [263] Machine Elf
[266] The Deep Machine Tunnels [0,15,0]
+> [266] Got abstraction: certainty
-> Turn [266] Galloping Grill
[266] The X-32-F Combat Training Snowman [12,11,56]
OK, there’s not too much else I can do today apart from the Hidden City. I cannot get to the Palindome because I need to save Belowdecks for Day 3 Tot gear, and I cannot get to Lord Spookyraven yet since there are plenty of Day 3 digitized monsters to send to manor zones whilst getting ingredients for the mortar-dissolving solution. However, as previously mentioned, I do want to see if I need to time-spin a shaman, so I’m off to the Hidden City:
[266-269] The Hidden Temple [0,0,0]
-> Turn [269] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[270-276] The Hidden Park [84,77,182]
+> [272] Got bloodied surgical dungarees
+> [273] Got Xiblaxian polymer
+> [274] Got book of matches
+> [276] Got antique machete
}> [274] Disintegrated pygmy janitor
-> Turn [271] Crimbo Shrub
-> Turn [275] Trick-or-Treating Tot
-> Turn [276] Grimstone Golem
@> Learned: Projectile Salivary Glands; Translucent Skin; Skunk Glands; Throat Refrigerant; Intracranial Eye (Turn 270)
I had a spare YR and the janitor seemed the best choice. I had no intention of drinking cursed punch, but the bowl of scorpions saved three turns.
[277] An Overgrown Shrine (Southeast) [10,6,5]
[278] An Overgrown Shrine (Southwest) [0,7,17]
[279] An Overgrown Shrine (Northwest) [0,14,9]
-> Turn [279] Nosy Nose
[279] The Hidden Bowling Alley [21,39,42]
I use the free liana fights to work towards my grimstone mask. Then I go and digitize a pygmy bowler: I can get two to burn manor delay() before I nightcap.
[280-282] The Hidden Hospital [45,56,133]
+> [281] Got half-size scalpel
[283] An Overgrown Shrine (Southwest) [0,0,0]
-> Turn [283] Grimstone Golem
[283-284] The Hidden Bowling Alley [38,41,117]
+> [283] Got bowling ball
+> [284] Got bowling ball x 3
I end up banishing orderlies in the Hospital so I come back now to get the second and third bowling balls (closeting them as I go to avoid the stat adventures at this point in time: I'll use them tomorrow to run down digitized monster windows).
[285] An Overgrown Shrine (Northwest) [0,0,0]
[286] An Overgrown Shrine (Northeast) [5,0,15]
[287-290] The Haunted Ballroom [46,45,99]
+> [287] Got bowling ball
-> Turn [287] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[291-293] The Poop Deck [14,14,420]
+> [292] Got deviled egg
-> Turn [293] Nosy Nose
[294-302] The Hidden Apartment Building [198,216,406]
+> [294] Got McClusky file (page 1)
+> [298] Got Ghost Dog Chow
+> [300] Got McClusky file (page 2)
+> [301] Got McClusky file (page 3)
-> Turn [298] Grimstone Golem
Excellent, I get 3x shamans naturally and also 3x McClusky files. I’ll time-spin a goat and then use my remaining time-spinner minutes on a meal, saving my DMT-duplicated earl grey for tomorrow. This will also give me two time-spinner combats tomorrow for whatever I might need.
[303-304] The Haunted Kitchen [64,68,142]
+> [304] Got grimstone mask
I haven’t used all my portscans yet – I finish them off in the Kitchen for better stats than the usual monsters there.
[305] An Overgrown Shrine (Northwest) [0,0,0]
-> Turn [305] Intergnat
[305] Time Spinner: Dairy Goat [9,13,20]
+> [305] Got goat cheese
[306] The Haunted Gallery [14,15,36]
[306] The Haunted Storage Room [17,19,39]
This was my last digitized bowler, but the counter was off by one again, possibly caused by trapping the Haunted Gallery ghost one turn before it was due. Since the bowler does not appear in the Storage Room, I push it into the Kitchen next turn for a much better use of stats:
[307] The Haunted Kitchen [16,18,36]
+> [307] Got bowling ball
o> Ate 1 Tea, Earl Grey, Hot (19 adventures gained) [0,0,0]
o> Drank 1 astral pilsner (33 adventures gained) [3,10,15]
-> Turn [307] Trick-or-Treating Tot
And that’s it for today. I’m still about 10 turns behind my last run, but things are not looking too bad.
Day 3
===Day 3===
Again, nothing unusual with today’s deck cheats: tower / ore / +items.

My plan for today is very closely scripted; I need to power to Level 12 getting digitized assassins on the way, start the war and digitize a LFM as soon as I can, then wait for all 4 to return before hitting the battlefield. I should have just about enough things to do without starting the pyramid. My hope is to save my third digitize for a green ops soldier on the battlefield, use a couple of its returns to burn delay() in the pyramid and hope for as many green smoke bombs as possible. Go Archie, go... :P
[308] Deck of Every Card [0,0,0]
+> [308] Got Boris's key, asbestos ore, barrel-aged martini, chrome ore
+> [308] Got linoleum ore
o> Drank 2 astral pilsner (66 adventures gained) [43,25,27]
-> Turn [308] Jumpsuited Hound Dog
[308-312] Lair of the Ninja Snowmen [106,115,247]
+> [312] Got ninja rope, ten-leaf clover
-> Turn [312] Puck Man
Not bad, 5 turns to find an assassin at +17% combat. I deal with the returning copies in Spookyraven zones.
[313] The X-32-F Combat Training Snowman [106,139,294]
+> [313] Got yellow pixel x 7
[313] Rest in your bed in the Chateau [0,0,140]
[313-314] The Haunted Kitchen [101,92,196]
+> [313] Got yellow pixel
+> [314] Got yellow pixel
[315] Rest in your bed in the Chateau [0,0,140]
[315] The Haunted Conservatory [45,56,96]

[316] The Haunted Kitchen [0,0,0]
+> [316] Got Ghost Dog Chow
[317] The X-32-F Combat Training Snowman [75,46,148]
+> [317] Got power pill, yellow pixel x 3
-> Turn [317] Intergnat
[317] Rest in your bed in the Chateau [0,0,140]
[317] The Deep Machine Tunnels [6,19,9]
+> [317] Got Deep Machine Tunnels snowglobe
I use the DMT and the snojo to level to 12 as quickly as I can. I also use the Intergnat to work away at getting those two remaining thin black candles I need...
[317] The Haunted Storage Room [32,21,48]
[318] A Massive Ziggurat [0,7,8]
-> Turn [318] Nosy Nose
[318-319] The Hidden Office Building [50,44,121]
-> Turn [319] Intergnat
[320-324] The Haunted Conservatory [77,61,156]
+> [323] Got ninja crampons
-> Turn [324] Nosy Nose
[325-329] The Hidden Office Building [108,105,224]
+> [325] Got McClusky file (page 4)
+> [327] Got Ghost Dog Chow, McClusky file (page 5)
=> Level 12 (Turn 327)! (80/77/125)
+> [328] Got McClusky file (complete), boring binder clip
-> Turn [327] Crimbo Shrub
[330] Frat House [42,20,69]
+> [330] Got beer helmet, bejeweled pledge pin, distressed denim pants
}> [330] Disintegrated mutant Frat Warrior drill sergeant
-> Turn [330] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[331] Hippy Camp [13,25,49]
-> Turn [331] Intergnat
OMG, I almost kill the entire run right here: just as I am unreasonably cursing the lack of a 1-turn war start, I suddenly remember that I haven’t opened the Palindome yet! WTF!! That would have been a disaster! :shock: I go straight Belowdecks and get lucky with a 1-turn gaudy pirate:
[332] Belowdecks [19,20,38]
+> [332] Got Imp Ale, gaudy key, gaudy key, snakehead charrrm
+> [332] Got snakehead charrrm
... then I go and brew a large pot of coffee and make myself check through all my notes and spreadsheets to ensure that I'm not about to do anything else stupid today!
-> Turn [332] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[333] Hippy Camp [22,18,52]
[334-335] Wartime Hippy Camp (Frat Disguise) [38,40,110]
+> [334] Got bullet-proof corduroys
[336] Hippy Camp [0,0,0]
+> [336] Got long hard screw x 5, messy butt joint x 4, morningwood plank x 5, raging hardwood plank x 5
+> [336] Got ten-leaf clover, thick caulk x 5, weirdwood plank x 4
-> Turn [336] Intergnat
[337] The Smut Orc Logging Camp [0,0,0]
+> [337] Got long hard screw x 3, weirdwood plank x 3
[338-341] The Hidden Office Building [94,91,222]
[342] An Overgrown Shrine (Northeast) [0,0,0]
[342] The Hidden Bowling Alley [26,29,34]
[343] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob [33,24,45]
+> [343] Got ninja carabiner
-> Turn [343] Jumpsuited Hound Dog
[344-345] Sonofa Beach [29,33,89]
+> [345] Got barrel of gunpowder
OK, getting back into the swing of things now and the RNG is being kind: 2-turn Sonofa Beach is very welcome. I will use the first digitized LFM to finish opening the Outskirts, then I will pick up the remainder in Spookyraven zones.
-> Turn [345] Nosy Nose
[346-352] Inside the Palindome [78,71,168]
+> [347] Got photograph of a red nugget
+> [348] Got ketchup hound, photograph of a dog, stunt nuts
+> [351] Got photograph of God
+> [352] Got photograph of an ostrich egg
-> Turn [352] Intergnat
[353] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob [25,19,44]
+> [353] Got barrel of gunpowder
-> Turn [353] Nosy Nose
[354-357] Inside the Palindome [108,91,213]
+> [355] Got bottle of gin
-> Turn [356] Intergnat
I have all the Palindome non-combats by turn 355 and I’ve encountered three dudes. Last run I experienced bad RNG screw here, so I decide to use my two time-spinner fights on Racecar Bob so I can finish up the Palindome immediately.
[358] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob [0,0,0]
+> [358] Got Knob Goblin encryption key
[359-362] The Hidden Bowling Alley [115,127,131]
+> [362] Got thin black candle
[363] An Overgrown Shrine (Southeast) [0,0,0]
[363] A Massive Ziggurat [49,41,108]
[364] Next to that Barrel with Something Burning in it [24,18,67]
+> [364] Got molybdenum hammer
[365-367] Over Where the Old Tires Are [92,107,227]

[379] The Prince's Lounge [0,0,0]
[380] The Prince's Restroom [0,0,0]
[381] The Prince's Canapes Table [0,0,0]
+> [381] Got ornate dowsing rod
I’m finishing up various outstanding quests here to push the returning LFMs into delay() zones. Also, as previously mentioned, I think the dowsing rod is very much worth it in this path.
[382-395] The Arid, Extra-Dry Desert [280,265,659]
+> [382] Got yellow pixel
+> [383] Got yellow pixel
+> [384] Got reinforced beaded headband, round purple sunglasses

[396] The Oasis [60,51,85]
+> [396] Got drum machine
I power pill in the Oasis to preserve ultrahydrated turns – the lovebugs were not being that kind at this stage.
-> Turn [396] Puck Man
[396-406] The Arid, Extra-Dry Desert [284,232,547]
+> [396] Got yellow pixel

+> [403] Got yellow pixel
+> [404] Got yellow pixel
+> [405] Got yellow pixel
+> [406] Got barrel cracker, yellow pixel
-> Turn [406] Trick-or-Treating Tot
By the time I have all the worm-riding pages it will be much quicker to finish in the Desert than to hunt a stone rose. A nice bonus is that I get a tennis ball as a result.

Now I have three more things to get done before my final LFM returns and I can hit the battlefield: clear out all the +item zones, take out Lord Spookyraven so I can summon the meat demon, and do the nun’s trick:
[407] Deck of Every Card [0,0,0]
[407-408] The Hatching Chamber [36,38,97]
[409] The Feeding Chamber [32,17,46]

[441-446] The Haunted Laboratory [75,81,143]
+> [443] Got barrel of gunpowder
[447] Lord Spookyraven [51,45,71]
-> Turn [447] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[448-461] The Themthar Hills [224,260,557]

o> Ate 1 Tea, Earl Grey, Hot (21 adventures gained) [0,0,0]
o> Ate 1 ice rice (19 adventures gained) [0,11,0]
-> Turn [463] Oily Woim
OK, all is going extremely well now! Thinking ahead to the tower tests I know I’m weak on +init, so I take out my woim to plump it up with the friar’s blessing and whatever chow I have left. I swap to the shrub when I think the green ops soldier window is about to open…
[464-470] The Battlefield (Frat Uniform) [87,127,286]
+> [469] Got Ghost Dog Chow
[471] The Haunted Wine Cellar [26,25,47]
[471-482] The Battlefield (Frat Uniform) [280,266,581]
=> Level 13 (Turn 480)! (96/94/148)
}> [481] Disintegrated Green Ops Soldier
-> Turn [479] Crimbo Shrub
-> Turn [481] Oily Woim
-> Turn [482] Trick-or-Treating Tot
\o/ Brilliant, that sets me up nicely. I have purposely left a few quests unfinished to ensure I have enough places to go and adventure in whilst allowing time for two digitized green ops soldiers to be pushed into the Upper Chamber. Off I go:
[484-487] Mist-Shrouded Peak [76,71,144]
[488] Oil Peak [0,0,0]
+> [488] Got Ghost Dog Chow
[489] The Upper Chamber [27,18,36]
[490] The Battlefield (Frat Uniform) [16,27,42]
[491] Throne Room [25,20,53]
+> [491] Got Cobb's Knob lab key, Glass Balls of the Goblin King, ten-leaf clover

+> [495] Got tennis ball
-> Turn [494] Trick-or-Treating Tot
[505-508] A-Boo Peak [0,0,0]
[509-511] The Upper Chamber [18,15,30]
+> [510] Got crumbling wooden wheel
-> Turn [510] Jumpsuited Hound Dog
-> Turn [511] Trick-or-Treating Tot
&> 2 / 2 free retreats
[512] Rest in your bed in the Chateau [0,0,120]
[512-517] The Middle Chamber [94,110,190]
+> [512] Got tomb ratchet x 3
+> [513] Got tomb ratchet x 3
+> [515] Got Xiblaxian alloy, tomb ratchet x 3
&> 3 / 3 free retreats
This went perfectly! Two green ops soldiers in the Upper Chamber, one crumbling wheel noncombat, two green smoke bombs. I have over 400% items and get two more green smoke bombs. Then in the Middle Chamber I get three tomb rat kings, use two tennis balls and all my remaining green smoke bombs and power pills. It couldn’t have gone better!
[518] The Lower Chambers (Token/Empty) [0,0,0]
[519] The Lower Chambers (Rubble/Bomb) [0,0,0]
[520] The Lower Chambers (Empty/Rubble) [0,0,0]
[521-522] The Battlefield (Frat Uniform) [23,23,77]
[523] The Skeleton Store [12,5,15]
-> Turn [523] Galloping Grill
Right. I have no idea what tower elemental test I’m going to face, so I spend about 10 minutes pre- Wisniewski looking at what +elemental dmg items I’ve got during the war and what +elemental dmg items I can buy from the Quartersmaster (although before doing anything, I make sure I buy enough gauze garters – I’m determined not to screw myself over now!). I also get a beer bong, war tongs and kick-ass kicks to try and cover all +elemental dmg bases. I wish there was an easier way of looking at the items you can trade for quarters from the list in the store instead of having to keep looking at your inventory or the wiki, but there we go. No doubt there’s something in mafia that would do it but about which I’m clueless!
[523] The Big Wisniewski [68,72,180]
[524-525] Ed the Undying [57,41,106]
+> [524] Got bowl of marinade
+> [525] Got hot ashes
[526-527] The Lower Chambers [60,55,112]
+> [526] Got shaker of dry rub
+> [527] Got bottle of lighter fluid
[528] Ed the Undying [22,25,55]
[529] The Lower Chambers [18,25,70]
[530] Ed the Undying [28,24,51]
+> [530] Got Holy MacGuffin, hot ashes, miniature power pill
-> Turn [530] Machine Elf
In my 3/551 run I was given the cold test here. I could only get +20 cold dmg so it took a whole 8 turns :( . Consequently, I was praying for anything but cold dmg, and I was rewarded with... sleaze ! You will remember that I cursed the Whitey’s Grove semi-rare earlier, but turns out it was actually the best thing I could have got since it ensured a 1-turn contest!

As expected, I was weak on +init, but thanks to a load of saved buffs (including the Island Arena reward) I managed to get it down to 2 turns:
[531-532] Fastest Adventurer Contest [35,55,92]
[533] Strongest Adventurer Contest [26,27,49]
[534] Sleaziest Adventurer Contest [13,18,43]
o> Ate 1 Tea, Earl Grey, Hot (18 adventures gained) [13,15,18]

So, there we have it!

Hope my ramblings make sense, but I'm happy to add further comments / clarify things as necessary! I should say that when I'm playing a run then I am completely useless at following chat or even spotting PMs; indeed, sometimes I don't even have chat open at all, or it's just stuck on /trade... I learnt a few years ago that if I try and play and chat at the same time I just end up making ridiculous errors in my run planning! Anyway, if my chatting is sporadic, I do at least try and answer kmails and forum posts... and sometimes I really do get that chat pane open properly if I'm slumming around in aftercore! :D

Nicely done!
Clearly the key to a gold star is Wall of Meat rng (1,013 meat here). *high-fives*

Thank you!

Perhaps one of the Tot's as-yet-undiscovered 'secrets' is that it gives a hidden +100% meat whenever cranberry cordiality is active :)

Thank you for posting these. I was curious how much your strategy deviated from mine. I thought I was being smart favoring fish hatchets over clarinets, but never considered digitizing blooper before desks.

I'm surprised we didn't see any other 3 dayers though. If I had got "normal" RNG in my last hardcore run I would have barely squeaked by at ~555 turns. Turn generation is actually much easier to plan with the diet restrictions.

Very impressive run, again. I was not nearly as prudent, especially when it comes to leaving quests for ToT costumes on certain days, and getting a grimstone mask. I also like the idea of keeping the bowling NCs to burn off wanderer windows, for some reason I never had thought of that before. Cheers!
