Mad Hamish's Steam Thread (formerly Left 4 Dead)

Post by Mad Hamish » Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:48 am

Hey. I haven't been around the kingdom as much lately. This is because I've been killing Zombies in what is the most exciting and entertaining co-operative gaming experience I've had since I first played the original Gauntlet. If your computer can run it, and you're not forced to choose between rent and food, acquire this game and play it. With me. My steam id is http://steamcommunity.com/id/madhamish

Heh, does this sound like a highly literate spambot to anyone else?

That being said, my laptop sucks, so no Left 4 Dead for me :/

I'll spambot you!

The game is amazing. I survived the zombie apocalypse with my two brothers, who live hundreds of miles away from me. Just barely, though.

No. We just barely survived. I think they're around 700 miles away.

I wish I could play this game :(

I don't have a 360, and I rarely play computer games (other than the obvious).

I also wish I could play this game... If I can find the money to play it, I'll give it a try. Sadly, I'm a poor university student and thus have no money at all. Though, if it's near as good as Fallout 3, which is awesome, I should be able to find a way to play the game. (if I have to use a friends Xbox, so be it. I'll just blame Hamish.)

In any case, I've recently become addicted to the new-ish Warhammer online game. It's effectively a WoW clone with an awesome PvP system added on, but somehow it's managed succeed where WoW failed, atleast in my mind anyway. Though, it's a little buggy at the moment, I'd suggest holding off for a couple months if you're interested in playing it. They've got server and client issues to figure out before it reaches its true potential. (actually, the game has obviously been poorly designed and released, but somehow, I'm still addicted. The scenario system is awesome no matter how often the game crashes (server or client side)).

Hammy schills for Steam again.

Steam's running a holiday sale right now until the 2nd. You save like 25%. Though you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, still. Actually, every game is on sale right now. Steam has Bioshock on their holiday sale for only $5, too. That game was amazing, and totally worth putting up with the semi-frequent crashes. It had a really unique visual style that I found slick and compelling, an entertaining and atypical plot, and a refreshing twist on the typical FPS gameplay. I give it 9/10, and it only loses those points for the crashes, which may very well be due to my system configuration.

Anyway, I'm kinda addicted to Steam. I don't even have to leave my house to buy games. Which is a good and a bad thing.

I dislike Steam, and only use it for HL2 and Portal, but I will check out Bioshock if its only $5. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, Portal is also well worth the price, being hilarious and beautifully designed. TF2 is too, if you're into deathmatches (oh god, am I! but DoD:S is my fav) though it could use some updating...

I liked Portal also. I even liked Narbacular Drop, the demo game that got the guys jobs at Valve to make Portal.

I should track that down. I assume it's free somewhere? I remember in the commentary they mentioned their student project.

I love games. Since I took advantage of the HL1 anniversary deal for 99c I got another copy of that old engine and me and my girlfriend have been playing the Sven Co-op mod together. It's pretty sweet.

My Steam account ID is Turias. Add me! I play a lot of TF2. I might get Left 4 Dead if it drops to $20.

I just finished with Fallout 3 and will probably pick this up in a couple weeks. Anyone on here have 360 live?

If you enjoyed Half-Life 2 single player at all, be sure to download the mod Minerva: Metastasis for the source engine. It's a parallel storyline to the HL canon, where you go to the bottom of a giant underground base, and then escape through the wreckage. Definitely the finest fan made single player FPS experience I've had, and attracted the notice of Valve software to hire this guy to work on Half-Life 2: Episode Three for them. Good call, as I enjoyed Minerva more than most of the official HL2 single player.

Also, it's free, if you own any Source games.

Hmm.. I think I sent you a friend request. There were a pair of swordsdancers, but one hadn't logged in recently, so I picked the other.

Yeah, the other hasn't logged in for 200+ days. :P

Oddly enough, I don't think I received your friend request after checking today. I'll check again tomorrow.

since it's about zombies, is it appropriate to necro this thread?

Left 4 dead 2 was just released, and the wife and I have been having a blast playing it. If anyone else wants to play on xbox live with us, I'm Zombiepops there too.

I just can't bring myself to play FPSes on consoles. I'll probably be playing L4D2 on steam at some point soon.

It's doubtful (although not inconceivable) that I'll be getting L4D2 , but if anyone feels like hitting me up for some TF2, I'll be under SoVeryInvisible.

I also prefer PC games, especially FPS. Keyboard + Mouse >>>> Controllers for that and RTS. But since Im getting an Xbox and a majority of friends play on live, I'm doing that for L4D2. Same with Modern Warfare 2

I have L4D2, it is far better than I was expecting (and I was expecting a lot) If you play it on Steam, invite me for a round or two. I'm pretty good, but kinda kamikaze. The same in all FPS, really.
