What's better than excel and soccer? [World Cup Pool]

Post by thacon » Thu May 27, 2010 3:46 pm

Two of my favorite things are excel and soccer (especially the world cup). If you're like me, you may appreciate this link: http://hinx.quarkphysics.ca/

Someone has taken a considerable amount of time to set up a world cup tracking excel file. There's an impressive level of detail included.

And on another note, would anyone be interested in a world cup pool like our March Madness and NFL playoff pools?

A world cup pool sounds good - at least I understand the rules for football (soccer for USA peeps), even the mystery of offside.

I set up a yahoo group called Alliance From South Africa. You can join with this link. If it doesn't work, use the following:

Group ID#: 13935
Password: afh2010

I'll give the following prizes:
1st place: 300,000 meat
2nd place: 200,000 meat
3rd place: 100,000 meat

And anyone who correctly picks the winner will get a 100,000 meat bonus.

That's easy to answer:

Excel, soccer and beer.

I'm in.

USA! All the way! Or... not.
<_<

I'm in. (Couldn't find a good quote from "Victory" to use as my team name.) If I win, it will be due to complete blind luck, as I do NOT follow football/soccer in the slightest.

I'm in if people from outside the clan are allowed, registered anyway already. >_> (I'd also be absolutely fine with not being eligible for the meat prizes)

Nice, I'll be able to reuse my picks from a game I play with some other (not KoL-related) people. :D

I'll give it a go.

Interesting, this is much more intricate than the ESPN version.

Nani, Drogba, Robben, Ferdinand, Ballack, Essien, Diarra, Pirlo (and I guess Charlie Davies)

These injuries are getting excessive. It's like a fantasy team of injured players.

ETA: Also, if you need help making your picks, Goldman Sachs put together a thorough analysis

*Bump*

If you want to enter the pool, do so soon. The world cup starts tomorrow.

Thanks for organising this, I have finally got round to making some picks. I've even been a bit of traitor (for a Scot) and predicted England winning games.

When I first made the payouts for this, I hadn't realized you could change your picks as you went along. The 100k for picking the winner doesn't seem right when it's 50/50. Will anyone be exceptionally upset if I rescind that part?

Not at all. If you had to pick the winner at the start, then that takes some skill. When it's narrowed down to two choices, not so much.

That is fine by me. Another option would be to give to meat to the winner of the group play.

Congrats to our come-from-behind winner Flolle, who took 1st place by one point over MonsterERB. Pet Rock Steve came in third place. I'll send out the prizes no later than tomorrow afternoon.
