AFH NCAA Basketball March Madness Bracket Extravaganza!

Post by Eigenbasis » Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:42 pm

Assuming there's enough interest, I would like to do a March Madness bracket challenge. I think we did one last year and I can't remember what site we used, but I like CBS the best generally over ESPN and Yahoo.

Standard weights apply but they usually end up being 1 point for the first round and 32 points for picking the winner, with the rest in between.

Entry: 250k meats, send meats to Eigenspace

Prizes

If < 6 players
Second gets 250k, winner gets the rest

If 6-8 players
Second gets 500k, winner gets the rest

If > 8 players
Will determine prize structure, but will be expanded to 3rd or more.

My random-bracket-based-on-historical-win-percentages has been submitted. It won't win, but it probably won't lose either.

In, also- bracket done in about 30 seconds but it's not like I'd do any better if I spent more time on it. =)
May the best mascot win!

If it lets you join the league, and you do it soon, I may be able to manually enter your picks if you give them to me. But try to join the league first.

Interesting brackets all around. My bracket is heavily dependent on both Kansas State succeeding and Pittsburgh failing, the sooner the better, but if K-State makes it to the Elite Eight or better I think I have the best shot at winning.

My bracket is based on liking the Pac-10 and various other random teams. I was not up for comparing mascot cuteness this time. I'm glad TE covered that. :)

My major theme for the tournament was The Big East Is Going To Suck. It seems that I was right. Unfortunately, I waffled quite a bit between the Kansas State and Wisconsin match. I knew that I wanted the winner of that match to go to the Final Four. I chose Kansas State and got burned, but because Pitt went out so early that basically makes that region a wash.

That game really could have gone either way. Honestly, I expected Wisconsin to make an early exit after their 33-point egg against Penn State. I thought the Big East would do well but they are not coming through for the most part. But anyway, I'm pretty sure that if Duke wins the title, I win the pool, if only because the title game is worth 32 points :P

Yep. I'm guaranteed to be ahead of panic and it would take a series of unlikely flukes for TEW to beat me. (no offense to the Huskies)

As usual, I went with Catholic schools to my own detriment (there's a lesson there, friends, which I will let you interpret on your own) =)

At any rate... my only hope at this point is Connecticut. Fun, regardless!

Well, unless UConn goes all the way, i think Eigen's won and I'm second. We both can only get more points from Kansas winning its next 2 games :(

Fun pool! Can't wait to see UConn go down :D

Wow, did I fuck that up. Already done scoring points.

A very exciting tournament to watch, even though it is disappointing in many ways.

UConn going all the way could actually happen... wow, that would be rather hilarious given that I did my pics in a hurry with little to no analysis (well, okay, I thought about mascots and colors and locale). =P

I don't mind Kansas, really... Lawrence is a great town. I'm not a Missourian and thus have no desire to burn the town down (again).

My remaining rooting interests:

1) Whoever is playing UNC
2) Whoever is playing Kansas
3) Whoever is playing Kentucky
4) VCU
5) Butler
6) Whoever is playing UConn

I don't get the Arizona thing at all. They should have lost both of their first two games, then they play well enough to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves and beat Duke, then they put up a good game but lose to a pretty good UConn team. Sigh.

EDIT: SCORE!!!!!!!! UNC and Kansas both lost!!!!!!! :D  :D  :D

This whittles my rooting interests down to VCU and UConn in the Final Four games, and then either VCU or Butler in the title game. What a great tournament so far!!!

Dont do brackets, but I had UK and VCU as my picks for the title since the first round ended. Partly because they're both really good, partly because that will be the best game ever.

UConn-Butler is why we can't have nice things. Why ya' gotta get both wrong?

Crazy year. I'm happy for UConn, as improbable as their run was. But that's why the tourney is so awesome! Put everything on one game and the best team doesn't win every time (I don't mean Butler was better than UConn, but that Kansas, OSU, Duke, Pitt, etc. were). I love it that way. Handing the trophy to the best team every year is boring. Plus Kemba seems like a really good kid, and I'm thrilled that he's getting a degree. That's how college athletics should be. Anyway, hopefully Kyrie stays, and Duke reloads next year with Austin Rivers! :D
