Puppets!

Post by unwieldy locutions » Thu Jul 14, 2011 11:53 pm

So I want to make a puppet to test this idea I have for an eyebrow mechanism. I've made a couple puppets before, but I don't have any available to me to use. I figure this would be a great time to make a new one.

It'd be a Muppet-style puppet, because they're my favorite to use. I'm having a hard time deciding on a design, though. I sketched up three quick ideas, but I'm open to suggestions.

First up is a self-portrait puppet. Really, any caricature puppet is fine, but the first puppet I ever made was a (pretty good) likeness, and I had a lot of fun with it. It's also an excuse to be lazy with my voice.

Second is a monster puppet. This is a version of a six-eyed monster puppet I want to eventually make. This is probably the most flexible in terms of design. Monsters are fun. Ideas for messin' with the design are welcome. I tend to have only three or four monster designs that I stick with.

Also up to animal suggestions.

Basically, I want anyone to weigh in, because my wife and friends have been entirely noncommittal.

Er, um, I like the second one because it's a monster that wears a watch.

The rhino is amusing and original. I'd go with that.

I think the rhino needs either a cigar, or a monocle and top hat/bowler hat.

Wow. Rhino by a landslide. All right then. I'll get to work this weekend.

I like them all. "Angry you" could have his own talk show.

I voted Rhino, though, because the idea of manipulable rhino eyebrows now fascinates me.

A combination of narcissism and more narcissism means I'll be making the me puppet next, hopefully with a perfected eyebrow. Plus, I really want to make that shirt. Now, to make a little suit or buy a little suit...
