College football 2013 season

Post by Raccoon » Sun Sep 29, 2013 2:31 pm

A little late getting this started, but here it goes . . . .

The news that USC has (finally) fired Lane Kiffin is great news for Trojan fans and sad sad news for the rest of the Pac-12. Kiffin's ineptitude is a primary reason that USC has underachieved despite having the best talent in the conference. Now if USC goes out and gets a good coach, the Oregon/Stanford dominance is going to get a real challenge. . . .

Yeah my boys at ASU stomped all over USC last night. They gashed us for some long TD runs but it felt good to crush them so hard they fired their coach hours later.

Dear PAC-12, thanks a lot for further hurting our strength of schedule by robbing Wisconsin of a possible win.

Oh man, I had student section tickets for that game and it was absolutely insane.

You go to ASU? That's a shame. (U of A here).

Heh, I graduated a couple years ago but I scored a couple tickets for that game.

Yeah, that's short term thinking . . . . It would've been better to leave Kiffin place, where he could continue to undermine the Trojans. Now they might go get someone who actually can coach. . . .

So . . . Stanford really has Oregon's number. Considering that Oregon has been on its way to becoming a USC-like bully, at least in the Pac-12, I can't say I'm crying over the loss. The only negative is that now the Pac-12 won't have a team in the BCS championship game (unless almost all of Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, and maybe Baylor take a loss).

I was waiting for someone (likely Stu) to make a post about that game. I'm surprised it took this long. It's really a shame that Oregon blocked/returned that field goal. Stanford's win would have been much more impressive without Oregon's late surge.

It does seem unlikely that Stanford will make the championship game, but you never know. And even if they don't, they'll probably end up in the 100th Rose Bowl against OSU. That will be a fun game.

Stanford-OSU does sound like a fun game (would you go, thacon??), but we had pretty solid Rose Bowl chances even before we won this week, so this just makes the Utah loss that much more disappointing.

Beating Oregon was super fun, even with that scare during the last ten minutes--and I almost didn't go to the game because it was a bit of a hassle to get down there on a weeknight!

Yeah. I am sure most 1-loss teams have a shoulda/coulda/woulda story, but when I saw that Stanford was up 20-0 I thought "wow...". I figure Stanford played at something like 95% of their max potential, but... Oregon is no slouch and they got crushed. I don't think anybody could have beaten Stanford the way they were playing. Yet Baylor jumped them in the polls. And they weren't more impressive than OSU's bye week.

I would love to, but I doubt it. I never even made it out there while my brother was at Caltech. I'll have to settle for watching at home in a pile of nervousness. If Stanford plays their best, I don't think Ohio State has a chance.

How lucky is Auburn??? That's TWO games that the Tigers have won on ridiculous end of the game plays. But either way I think it's hilarious that Alabama lost.

I was horrified, terrible end to the season.

I hope Saban rips the one who got into the physical altercation with the Auburn player a new one. Preferable where his head used to be.

Love the gutsy call by Michingan. Too bad it didn't work. Pretty sure my father-in-law would cream his pants if the Tigers (Mizzou) beat the Tigers (Auburn) and got to play in the "National Championship" Game.

Totally agree on the Michigan call. I can remember back in the old (pre-KoL even!) days before the college football tiebreaker system, when college games could and did end in ties. The Big Ten coaches seemed mostly to lack guts and go for ties rather than try for wins. Notre Dame under Lou Holtz, too. It seems to me if you're playing a team that's better than you are, why play overtime? Better to go for it when you have control of the ball.

I think Saban shoulders a lot of the blame for Auburn's touchdown. It sure seemed like his play calling on the last drive was "pass play, see where that gets us; got us nowhere, run out the clock; run out the clock once more, too proud to take a knee; oh, wow, he got out of bounds? umm, I guess we'll kick a field goal; oh shit."

He sure didn't look like he was trying to get into field goal range after that first play.

That OSU-Michigan game was ridiculously intense. I agree with Hoke's call and had they converted, he would have become a Michigan legend.

I watched the first half of the Iron Bowl and then had to catch the second half on the radio. I would have loved to have seen it live, but listening to the Auburn radio announcer call the game was something special.

Wow, what a bowl season and what a national championship game. After the first quarter, I was expecting to turn it off and go to sleep at halftime. I'm glad I didn't.
