One Eyed Ninja's DITR IV Log #1

Post by One Eyed Ninja » Wed Nov 09, 2011 5:12 pm

Here's my Log for a Softcore DITR run.

One Eyed Ninja DITR IV Run Log
Start Date: 11/8
Class: DB
Sign: Vole
Ascension Stuff: Hot Dog's and Shirt

Day 1
Turn [0]: Picked up my letter from Ralph and hawked the gems. Made my meat car, set my detuned radio and got my 2 hermit clovers.
Turn [0] Pulls:
1. JEW Hat
2. OPS Shield
3. Greatest American Pants
4. Carnivore Button
5. Juju Mojo Mask
6. Plastic Vampire Fangs
7. Facsimile Dictionary
8. Spooky Putty
9. Rock and Roll Legend
10. Chemistry Set
11. Little Box of Fireworks
Turn [0]: Sold Dictionary and set buffs (Empathy, Leash, Annoyance, and Antiphon's) I try to keep them on all the time.
Turn [0]: Fought BRICKO turtle
Turn [0]: Level 2!
Turn [1]: Set Baby Sandworm
Turn [1-6]: Sleazy Back Alley
Turn [3]: Level 3!
Turn [6]: Acquired Greatest American Pants
Turn [7-9]: Moxie Vacation
Turn [9]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [10-12]: Spooky Forest
4/4 Free Runaways
...I'm really unsure about the delay mechanics. Do Free Runaway's decrease them or not? I also should probably look up where the delays are still present.

Turn [12]: Acquired mosquito larva
Turn [12] Pulls:
12. Uncle Crimbo's Rations
13. Wrecked Generator
14. Wrecked Generator
15. Prussian Cathouse
16. Sneaky Pete's Key Lime Pie
17. Jarlsberg's Key Lime Pie
18. Slimy Alveolus
19. Milk of Magnesium
20. Milk of Magnesium

...Read on the other logs that 2 Milk's is dumb. Duly noted. Prussian was also a stupid pull. I should have just drank a peppermint schnapps and pulled a ring of conflict instead. Dammit.

Turn [13]: Set Baby Sandworm
Turn [13-18]: Haunted Pantry
4/4 Free Runaways

...again, not really sure about my runaways in delay zones.

Turn [15]: Got Agua da Vida
Turn [16]: Level 4!!
Turn [19]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [19-23]: Guano Junction
Turn [21]: Got Sonar-in-a-Biscuit
Turn [23]: Got Sonar-in-a-Biscuit

Most of the time I burn a clover so I don't have to adventure in the junction. I think it worked out okay though.

Turn [23-25]: Beanbat Chamber
Turn [25]: Got Enchanted Bean and Sonar-in-a-Biscuit
Turn [25]: Set Bugged Bugbear
Turn [26-33]: Outskirts of Cobb's Knob
3/4 Free Runaways
Turn [31]: Level 5!!
Turn [33]: Got Knob Goblin Encryption Key
Turn [33]: Ate Can of Franks 'n' Beans (12 Adventures)
Turn [33]: Ate Ultrafondue (18 Adventures)
Turn [33]: Spleened Slimy alveolus (2 Adventures)

...It's spleened right? Spleening something.

Turn [34-39]: Boss Bat's Lair
Turn [39]: Got Boss Bat Bandana
Turn [40-49]: Typical Tavern Cellar
Turn [41]: Got Tangle of rat tails
Turn [43]: Got Tangle of rat tails
Turn [44]: Got Tangle of rat tails

From turn 33 to about turn 80 I was running insanely high ml for what I usually do. It worked out pretty well though, no beaten up's. Yet.

Turn [47]: Turn off Rat Faucet
Turn [49]: Got Baron von Ratsworth's tophat

Got the tophat since it only cost 2 turns, I was getting pretty good stats, and it would let me get turtle titters. Unsure about effectiveness.

Turn [46]: Level 6!!!
Turn [50]: Red Queen's Garden

Misclick... almost died. Afterwards teapartied like intended.

Turn [51-56]: Fax and Spooky Putty Ghost
Turn [56]: Got 29 White Pixels

29 Pixels kills me. My 8-bit gods have forsaken me.

Turn [57-58]: Cobb's Knob Harem
Turn [58]: Disintegrated Harem Girl
Free Runaways 1/2

I probably shouldn't have runaway. The harem guards probably gave good stats.

Turn [58]: Drank 2 Wrecked Generators (69 Adventures)
Turn [58]: Ate Sneaky Pete's Key Lime Pie (20 Adventures)
Turn [58]: Ate Jarlsberg's Key Lime Pie (18 Adventures)
Turn [58]: Ate Fortune Cookie (2 Adventures)

Really proud of myself for trying to track my semi-rare. It makes me feel so optimal and everything. Of course I forgot all about it and at Turn [81] felt really dumb. Lame.

Turn [59-64]: Haunted Billiards Room
0/1 Free Runaways
Turn [62]: Got Pool Cue
Turn [64]: Got Spookyraven Library Key
Turn [65-70]: The Haunted Library
Turn [68]: Level 7!!
Turn [70]: Look, Look, It's a Book
Turn [71-80]: The Haunted Bedroom

Decided I'd try my hand at unlocking the ballroom early. I subsequently got my ass handed to me by like 4 dresser's. I probably should have stopped after the first but I thought 'The OPS makes me a crack shot. It is impossible for me to miss. The other 3 times must have been flukes' I should probably read what being a crack shot entails.

Turn [80]: Got Haunted Ballroom Key
Turn [81]: Haunted Ballroom
Turn [81]: Song Set

I turn song. Yes!!

Turn [82-84]: Moxie Vacation

I usually forget about my vacations. I plan on doing them every 35. But whenever I see Adventure Again I automatically click it.

Turn [84]: Set Obtuse Angel
Turn [85-88]: The Defiled Alcove
Turn [88]: Arrowed Modern Zmobie
Turn [89]: Set Bugged Bugbear
Turn [89-105]: The Defiled Niche
Turn [89]: Banished Senile lihc
Turn [106-120]: The Defiled Nook
Turn [121-131]: The Defiled Cranny
Turn [124]: Level 8!!
Turn [132-140]: The Dark Heart of the Woods

Got 4 Hot Wings. Nice

Turn [141-149]: The Defiled Alcove
Turn [150]: Drank 3 Agua de Vida (20 Adventures)
Turn [151]: The Haert of the Crypt
Turn [152-158]: The Dark Neck of the Woods
Turn [159-174]: The Dark Elbow of the Woods

15 Adventures in elbow...Really. I was kind of pissed. But overall I thought crypt and friars went ok.

Turn [175]: Drank Prussian Cathouse (20 Adventures)
Turn [175]: Drank Bucket of Wine (26 Adventures)
Turn [175]: Vamp Out- Moxie
Turn [175]: Level 9!!
End of Day 1:
Stats: (42/44/68)
Adventures Remaining: 72
Day 1 Goals:
1. Get to Level 8
2. Finish Vacationing/ Combat Items :(
3. Get semi-rare :x
4. Remember to re-putty things

Batted 50% for goals on day 1. I really shouldn't have f'd up the semi-rare but I got kind of careless. I also shouldn't have pulled the prussian and additional milk. Especially since I normally have no problem with 3 day turngen. A ring of conflict would have been nice but overall I'm happy with day 1. This should make hitting a sub-600 (what I'm shooting for), easily do-able.

Suggestions and comments would be nice. Sorry my log looks funny and sometimes I don't indicate switching familiars. I didn't use mafia and just typed it out by hand.

Day 2

Lost all of my log (forum logged me out), so I'm going to have to be very vague.
1. I got to level 11 (65/62/110)
2. Got Talisman o' Nam
3. Got Worm Riding Hooks
4. At Turn 368
5. Have 103 Adventures Remaining
Really Disappointed about the log but the RNG was a Really Nice Guy to me today. I'm projecting I should be well under 600 turns for my new fastest run.

[Edit]
I realized that I actually do remember the highlights of day 2 so I'll share them.
Pulls:
1. Star Key Pie
2. Star Key Pie
3. Boris Key Pie
4. Wet Stew
5. Drum Machine
6. Disassembled Clover
7. Star Hat
8. Star Sword
9. Ring of Conflict
10. Mojo Filter
11. Filthy Hippy Hat
12. Filthy Hippy Pants
13. Furry Fur
14. Swashbuckling Pants
15. Stuffed Shoulder Parrot
16. Eyepatch
17. Linoleum Ore
18. Linoleum Ore
19. Linoleum Ore
20. Acoustic Guitarrr

I Yellow-rayed a miner at the start of my day. But I couldn't think of a good second so I let it go to waste.
SHC booze was made in-run and so was milk of magnesium.

Finished up my vacations pretty early too. I started with a Myst for the orchid and I was going to wait the standard 35 for the dynamite, but I didn't have anything to do 20 adv. later and I needed to burn off simply irresistible. I got lucky and got the dynamite on my 5th vacation.

Ate 2 star pies, Boris key, 3 Fortune cookies (one of them gave terrible numbers "50/56/72" so I elected to eat a second.

Drank 2 Mae Wests, 1 Peppermint Schnapps, 3 Pumpkin Beers, and a Bucket of Wine nightcap

Spleened 3 Pastes and an Agua de Vida

Semi-rared: Bad ASCII art. Puttied 3 times and faxed in an adding machine. I puttied that once and the leftover I used on a gaudy pirate. I guessing something might be better than pirate but I couldn't think of anything and I was out of pulls.

I also forgot to use my obtuse angel. I'm not sure what I might have targeted. I probably could have done the Bad ASCII and gotten 3 or so more clovers, but it slipped my mind.

The RNG really helped me in the following areas:
Black Forest: 5 turns
The poop deck: 3 Turns (with a set an open course) 8-)
F'c'cle: 5 Turns

The RNG screwed me over in:
Barrrney's Barrr: Spent about 25 agonizing turns here. 6+ beer pong attempts. I probably should have tried to pick up more insults. However, I did get 3 good NC's.

I used my unaccompanied miner, but it didn't save me any pulls. I got 2 cave-ins and 3 lumps of diamond. Oh well.

I also tried to save a bunch of pulls on day 2 since I was wasteful on day 1, so I adventured for spooky gro when I unlocked the temple and I pickpocketed a knob goblin madame for the perfume. I felt really good about the perfume because I spent 0 additional turns in the harem with only 2 runaways.

When power-leveling in the ballroom, I spaced and forgot I had three clovers. I'm guessing its not a huge deal though, since I'll use them today.

Finally, I banished a sabre-tooth goat with a crystal skull and got 2 whiskey and 5 goat milks. This helped me save booze and milk pulls, with Inigo's help.

Free runaways decrease delay.

You look like you're doing good - 3 day looks to be assured and the turncount looks pretty good as well. You look quite a bit under 600 I think - maybe 550-ish?

I think you should just powerlevel to 12 and start the war was soon as possible so you can flyer as much of the lvl 11 run as you can. Maybe do the palindome first since that's a ton of moxie stats, then use plastic vampire fangs, clovers and dance cards (if you have any) to get to 12.

Edit: also, that's a crazy good-looking hand written log. At first I thought you had edited a mafia log to make it more readable or something. Wow. Are you writing it directly into the forums? Maybe just write in a simple text editor (e..g Notepad) and then copy-paste to the forum so you don't lose anything? Or use Opera, the only browser to respect the HTTP standard that says that when you press the back button, you get the previous page in the same state as you left it in (and not a "FORM RESUBMISSION PLZ REFRESH" page as in other browsers).[/operaadvocacy]

Firefox does that just fine for me.

I wish I had thought about that. I panicked and my mind went blank.

Really good to know.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm planning to do. I still have 3 unused clovers and it looks like I can get 2 today from the hermit. It will definitely save some turns since most of the time I just half-ass it and flier cyrus.

Day 3
Turn [368]: Set Bugged Bugbear
Turn [368]: Vamp Out-Moxie
Turn [369-374]: Haunted Ballroom. Burned my clovers

Turn [375]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [375-390]: Palindrome
Turn [383]: Got Stunt Nuts
Turn [386]: Pulled
1. Ketchup Hound
2. Wand of Nagmar
3/3 Free Runaways

Spent a crazy amount of turns at the palindrome. The last Quest NC didn't want to happen for me. I also got to lay out in the sun 4 times. I got burnt twice at a medium amount of time. What option is optimal for speed?

Turn [391]: Ate 3 Astral Hot dogs. Just for the stats. I don't really need the adventures.
Turn [391-405]: Hidden Temple
Turn [393]: Level 12!!
I was about 200 moxie stats away from leveling so I figured I'd open up the city at the same time

Turn [406]: Set He-Boulder
Turn [406]: Disintegrate War Pledge
Turn [407]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [407]: Drank 3 Tropical Girl Swill (43 Adventures)
Just needed to boost myst half a point for pledge pin. Also made wet stunt nut stew here.
Turn [407-413]: Hippy Camp
Got 2/3 of the war hippy parts before the war started, so pretty happy about that.

Turn [414-418]: Fighting Lobsterfrogman. 1 Fax + 4 Putty
Turn [419]: Pulls
3. Sorority Brain
4. Mick's Inhaler
5. Tempura Cauliflower
6. Bullet-Proof Corduroys
Turn [419]: Set Hobo Monkey
Turn [419-424]: Themthar Hills

My semi-rare was in the middle of my nun's. Dumb but I kind of forgot about it.

Turn [425]: All The Rave
Turn [426-433]: Themthar Hills
Turn [434]: Putty Thieving Bandit
Turn [435]: Set Bugged Bugbear
Turn [435-443]: The Junkyard

Pretty Happy about 8 turn junkyard. It could have been a 6, but the first 2 vegetable gremlins didn't have the screwdriver.

Turn [444-445]: Haunted Ballroom
Turn [445]: We'll All Be Flat

Turn [446]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [446-455]: Haunted Cellar
Turn [455]: Got Spookyraven's Ear Trumpet

Booze didn't want to drop for me. I usually only spend about 5 adventures here, but it wasn't happening today.

Turn [456-474]: Hidden City
Turn [474]: Got Spectre Scepter

Long hidden city. I don't remember the runaway count, but GAP weren't cooperating.

Turn [475]: Cobb's Knob Laboratory
Turn [475]: Got Mega Gem

Turn [476]: Palindrome
Turn [476]: Got Staff of Fats

Turn [477]: Pulls
7. Tomb Ratchet
8. Cyclops Eyedrops

Turn [477-481]: The Battlefield

Turn [482]: Set Stomping Boots
Turn [482-486]: Organic Orchard
5 Turns...I guess thats okay. 8-)

Turn [486-493]: The Upper Chamber
Turn [494-503]: The Middle Chamber
Turn [504-510]: Ed the Undying

I have a terrible time doing the pyramid. I guess I didn't lose too many turns here, but I got beaten up by a rat king. Which was pretty lame.

Turn [511-540]: The Battlefield
Turn [541]: Pulls
9. Clover
10. Clover
11. Clover
Turn [541-543]: Haunted Ballroom
Turn [543]: Level 13!!

I got careless and beaten up by a green ops. I also ran out of hot tub uses, because I didn't figure I'd need them. So I just decided to level to 13. I probably could have gotten by with 2. Hindsight +2 Adventures.

Turn [544-545]: The Battlefield
Turn [546]: The Big Wisniewski

The Gates: Adder, Meleegra, Object Detection
12. Meleegra Pills
13. Large Box
14. Large Box
Turn [547]: Outskirts of Cobb's Knob

Should have tested the potions in the 8-bit realm since I needed to go there anyway. +1 Adventure

Turn [548-451]: Hole in the Sky
Turn [552-553]: 8-Bit Realm

I was pretty close with pulls and I needed 2 stars, a chart, and a white pixel. So I had to adventure in the zones. I really should have been more frugal in my day 1/2 pulls.

Turn [554-558]: The Hedge Maze
Turn [559-566]: Sorceress' Tower
Turn [560]: Pulls
15. Black Pepper
Turn [561]: Pulls
16. NG
Turn [562]: Pulls
17. Mariachi G-String
Turn [564]: Pulls
18. Fancy Bath Salts

I think I ran away 2/4 times. The tower wasn't being very nice either.

Turn [567]: Pulls
19. 7-inch Discus

Just to make the Sorceress easy.
Turn [568]: Done!!!
So a 3/568. This is my new fastest. I'm happy about it, but I also know I have a lot to improve on. I lost probably 5 turns in the crypt by accidentally doing the NC's. I also need to make better decisions with my pulls. Finally, I need to control my +ml better so I don't get beaten up. I got beaten up about 6 times this run, and they all could have been avoided if I was more careful.

But overall, I'm really pleased with how this run went. Who says you need Olfaction and Telescope to ascend fast?

Nice, congrats!

For comparison's sake, that's faster than any 3 dayer in DitR 3, and would have been good for 4th place. You'd have beaten Verdigris97, this year's tournament organizer! :P

I'll try and comment on the log when I have more time.

Nice run. Why did you pull furry fur?

Also, don't fight the ghosts with less than +150% items. That makes it certain you'll get 30 pixels.

I...uhhh...was always under the impression that I had to get the quantum egg to complete the quest. I quick wiki check shows me this isn't the case. Damn...well at least now I know.

Good to know. I wasn't sure what the exact number was. This will save me some future hassle.
