so this is my first attempt for the DitR contest, i'm aiming for a low turncount 3 day run.

i think the only new thing i did here was pull the pants for the spanglecrow. honestly, i can see why the hatrack was 40m- a double weight fairy is just amazing. i ate 2 cookies today, i don't have a grinder anyway so one fullness or two left over makes little difference to me i think.

i pulled the NPZR kit over a RoC because i figured i could use the invisibility potions for the forest. as it happened i got a ton of the -com and bugger all ML potions. not great, but it'll do. i felt like i was all over the place today, really fractured and couldn't hold on to what i wanted to be doing. more planning might have been an idea. what little plan i had was to burn delay and stomp low level stuff, but it was all just really messy. so things are all over the place- a turn or two here, a few more elsewhere. and while i put a fair few pounds on the hipster, my boots are really light so i didn't have anywhere near as many runaways as i'm used to.

so i usually use the alveolus to do the crypt and the cellar together, i get between 3 and 5 tangles that way and a load of stats. sadly the lack of the alveolus really cost me- i didn't see a single rat king in the cellar...

i had a few turns to play with at the end of the day, but this seemed a natural break. pretty much everything i wanted to get done today is done- my pantsrack and BBB are both getting heavy, i have a gate item, scroll of evil, skirt and hotwings, the ascii SR is ~80 turns away, i have 7 each of the stars and lines. umm, we'll see what goes wrong tomorrow :D

I haven't actually done the math, but I feel like it's worthwhile to pull both RoC and chemistry kit. Everything else looks fine so far.

well, that was fun. a bit heartbreaking, but fun. i knew it was a long shot- i needed to open the HitS for the star, grab the second gate item, and trust that in one large box there was the potion i needed and that i'd get to it before the drunkenness one- but if i'd had literally another 10 turns to play with i would have gone for it.
sadly it means i've pretty much blown this run from a 3-day perspective too. but hey, there's always tomorrow.

Ah man that's too bad. Olfactionless 2-dayer would have been very impressive.

Anyway - I don't think it would have been wise to open the HITS since that is super swingy. Other options would have been pulling the star, pulling another star pie and doing the DD, or pulling the star pie and getting a zap wand (also swingy, but gives you large boxes).

You mentionned "if I had another 10 turns I would have gone for it" - I suppose you had taken borrowed time into consideration?

Anyway, I wasn't there so I don't know if you did and who was in chat at the time, but generally when I feel like I am pretty close to being able to make it and I need to max out the ressources I have left, I start thinking out loud in chat. People will generally chime in with advice and tricks that you can use to make your goal.

(Hopefully people don't find me annoying when I do this ^^)

assume is the wrong word; hope is closer to the truth. for the sake of 'ridiculous, not even funny' day i would have given it a try if i could have even theoretically completed my run, as much for the sake of the occasion as anything.
and yeah, i'm not afraid of begging advice off better players ;)

i'd already eaten the borrowed time; i still had a summon for ultrafoundue if i wanted to pull melange. my sums were saying that with a 15 turn nuns, a 10 turn worms and a 10 turn HitS and only having the hedge maze stolen once i was about 8 turns short. likesay, it was a longshot. a LONG longshot. but bear in mind this was not a planned 2 day attempt. as an aside, i notice that moonthril really gets better towards the end of the month...

Did you have any runways left? Because you can easily pickpocket + runaways at the hedge maze golem. Worst case you can GAP runaway - even at 20% chance it's worth a shot.

One thing that is easy to forget is that you can put a barrnacle (and others) in your crown for +5 pounds = 1 extra runaway.

huh. i hadn't considered this at all. i'd used the buffing spray, headband teaparty buff, was out of pool table buffs (no extra weight i mean) and i'd used the 'free' run from the helicopter, but aye, that might have been a critical last resort. i was down to the 20% runs on the pants- my last 50% ones were used at the oasis to get the wormride- so it's nice to know there's a trick there if i ever need it :D

13 lost combats, including twice at the shadow. i dunno HOW he got the jump twice- i was running cletus', rollerblades, ear trumpet- but them's the breaks. almost all the rest were my fault- not taking care to heal before i went into the next combat. the battlefield took a few more turns than it should have- i was lazy and not really concentrating and didn't go back to the stand after i'd finished the worms. other mistakes? not using the 2 frank'n beans from the rations, seems pretty wasteful. i haven't done my sums as to whether the turns saved powerlevelling outweigh the turngen from the pumpkin pies. i'm sure you lot can point out the other things i did wrong

anyway, can't wait to try again- next time imma smash it :D

Do you forcekill tower monsters? You should start if you don't.

I notice you pulled 8-bit map on D1. For me, D1 pulls are very precious and I push 8-bit to D2 because of that.

Melanges give ~30 adv and most 2-day runs pull 2. Don't beat yourself up over missing a 2-day with just 11 extra adv.
