Lightwolf's Deterministic 2 Day SC SC Heavy Rain

Post by lightwolf » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:33 pm

Deterministic 2 Day runs
My Goal has been to produce a plan for consistent two day Heavy rain runs. So instead of commenting on a log after I've run it, I'm going to focus on the run plan I have been creating that exist before starting each individual run. I will include a log as well simply for example sake.

Ideally this will make it easier to do consistent two day runs in less real life time (currently about 4.5 hours per run), or eventually allow someone with better scripting ability then me to help automate it. This means minimizing decisions and time by doing the zones in a specific order, and completing each zone start to finish without jumping around.

This is a continual work in progress and is currently hitting sub 550 runs.

Pre-Req:
I currently have most IotM, and all Skills softcore permed. Though all of them are certainly not necessary the biggest factors are probably Reanimator, Rain-doh, snow garden, Smith Tome, and buddy bjorn. The rest of the equipment is for quality of life or more +exp, VIP stuff. You can see a full list in my pulls section.

The only notable consumables I really use each run are 5 hi meins, 1 Avatar Key lime pie, and a keepsake box. (Non noteables include ship trip scrip, wet stew, nightcap,

The second requirement are lead in runs to start off with Heavy rain skills. While its possible to do without, not having the skills means you have to pay more attention (and spend more time) deciding which zones you do in which order so you can encounter the correct 6 depth wandering monster in the correct outdoor/indoor/basement zones.

The relevant rain skills you would like to start turn 0 off with are Thunder Clap, Thundercloud, Rain man, and Lightning Strike. I've started fitting ball lightning into my plan but that really just replaces a Golden light.

Day 0
Class: Seal Clubber
Unlimited banish, high HP, high damage with LTS
LTS type attacks multiples +elemental damage!

Astral Items: Belt, AED

Holder Folder: ML, +NC, optional (+Resist or MP regen or More Main stat)

Standard buffs: I top off Mojo, Power Ballad, Phat loot, Leash, Rage, and try to stack Song of North with my overflowing Bjorn MP. Plus a few other misc buffs If I have room.

Notes:
  • * You probably want to make use of three cat whiskers over the course of the run. One on day 1, and two on day 2. You can line up most of the areas that need it pretty easily. This might occasioanly require doing some areas out of order to time the wandering monster window with an outdoor zone. (Level 6+ outdoor zone + Thundercloud = 4 depth for catwhiskers)

    * I usually am running around 150ML with my gear and the +2 depth. Surprisingly, the turn 1 cafe and writing desk monsters don't hit that hard and my Seal Clubber has about 150 HP then. I occasionally drop my ML when doing boss rush, snowman assassins, gremlins, and after flyering.

    * Once runs start moving towards a 500-530 turn count, hitting level 10 and level 11 milestones with stats becomes harder. I've had to start prioritizing a sombrero (grill) day 1 and consider putting on ML buffs I had previously been neglecting.

    * As this is consistent 2 day runs, I prioritize turn gen from hi meins over key pies. So this plan currently includes farming two daily dungeons, eating one Boris key lime pie, and farming for star key / digital key [psycho jar].

    * Equipment is pretty much the starting pulls. Always use pool skimmer unless you need an uncapped item drop for lamp, or you are doing the Desert. Always remember to re-equip pool skimmer after using Lamp

Log Dump!

In this run, I noticed it wasn't going to be a sub 500 so I detoured to do the Hippy war for factoids.
Made a mistake day 1 by forgetting to leave room for optimal dog for Baa'aa. Ended up using a Rain man on it day 2
Messed up a gremlin Rain man by picking the first one in the list instead of the second.

Thanks for starting this discussion.

For quality of life, do you prefer the +3 resist all or the tranquil folder for +MP regen/+DR? I've been using the tranquil one so I don't run out of MP when I have to put the golem in my bjorn.

Also, no need for a Wand for the Rain King.

I personally prefer to use the black box to copy writing desks and the reanimator on zmobies. That way I can open Spookyraven early and get a lot of stats clearing delay in the 2nd floor. I find when I reanimate the desk, I spend a lot of RL time trying to plan ahead to make sure I don't run out of stuff to do while waiting for wandering desks. Also, that means you have high level indoor zones (depth 4) for the first wandering monster window to aim for a catfish for whiskers and fish dna.

I usually try to go into Barrrney's Bar with an empty liver so I can get a fight out of the Rock Star noncombat.

I go for -combat in the tavern since the pyramid revamp. With the sockdollager you can skip all noncombats you get, and the 14(?) turns to open the control room means I have always had enough wheels and ratchets, even with only 1 tangle.

I'm currently starting day 2 with the airship so I can YR a mohawk wig.

I've been pulling a chef in the box. Saves 2 turns cooking knob cake and the unstable fulminate, and means I can cook myself milk of mag(s), other potions, and possibly a grue egg omelette.

If you can get 20 of all elements, there is absolutely no reason to not run as much +NC as you can without sacrificing any +ML or limited resources. If you get so many noncombats that you finish the tavern before getting all the tangles you want (whatever target that might be, it could change with future challenge paths), then you can keep going for more combats and it will be just like you didn't get those skipped noncombats.

Several of my runs I've had to spend quite a bit of extra turns after unlocking the pyramid control room because I only found 1 tangle earlier. It's hard to judge how many tangles I should try to pick up at the tavern since I haven't been able to cap the ratchet drops and some of them will wash away...

Also... D'oh! Wand... right. removing from list.

I arrowed modern zombie in my first runs, but the timing wasn't working out (also it was before I switched from key pies to hi mein). Though copying the writing desk in my first runs did help me get the rain skill in one of my lead in runs. I did some napkin math that said that zombie copies were some of the least valuable copies, and if I used my first 4 copies on writing desk I wouldn't be able to copy all of my other targets. Also got burned my rain manning and winking a modern zombie before I actually started the level 7 quest once...

Missing from your list of Rain Man targets is a quantum mechanic. Make sure you can avoid or remove teleportitis before fighting it.

Also missing is an orcish frat boy spy, to yellow ray for the war outfit.

Why do you pull an antique accordion?

Day 2 Pulls...

10. large box
11. frat war outfit x3 (if not pool skimmed)
12. ...
13. ...
I YR (or attempt to) the war hippy outfit so i can do nuns trick, and pull what ever parts of the frat outfit I haven't skimed.

Because I want to Buff on turn 0, and I have found myself super low on meat until day 2ish. Also because these are meant to be lazy consistent runs to counter act burn out rather than bleeding edge runs going for moon or gold. So quality of life. Also also I try to start running Song of the North early on so having 10 turn AT buffs rather than 5 turn makes a big deal in stabilizing buffs. song of North is often the difference between one extra LTS (and one extra monster hit)

I started planning thees before we knew there was a cap on the rainbow skill, so assumed I would potentially need a lot of them.

Since you can farm part of the war hippy outfit while starting the war, I think you're pulling the wrong war outfit. There are enough spare pulls that it doesn't really matter, of course (I pulled all of the tower combat items in my latest run, just because I could).

Then pull a facsimile dictionary, sell it, buy the accordion, and get nearly 20k extra meat out of the pull on top of 10 turn buffs.

Except those are limited (you can only get one per run), so wasting one on a lazier run is generally avoided.

I don't think I've ever needed/wanted enough meat that I'd pull 2 or more per run, so I think just refreshing it with the new facsimile in aftercore would be fine.

You could also just pull a gold wedding ring, still enough meat for the accordion with leftovers. Those would never be optimal in a tryhard run because of the existence of dictionary, even if they're limited. There's also giant pearls, which are unlimited and beat the ring slightly, but you have to go a little more out of your way than the dictionary to get one (or pay double the autosell in mall price).

Turn 1 isn't always 'turn 1', between free fights, hipster fights, or lightning strike free runaways.

Apart from that it comes from stats. Between ML and +stat gear/buffs I probably average +22 main stat per combat according to mafia (boris hat, sneaky pete shirt, Shoulder folder with ML, Pantsgiving, astral belt all give stats). Though I sometimes scale the ML back for the first turn or two.

In the case of this run, my first adventure is against the weird monsters so i can get the DNA extraction intrinsic that gives +4 stats per combat. My second turn is usually rain man and winking a writting desk, in whch case i use lower ML then normal just to make sure I don't get beat up before I can accomplish that task. AFter that, I use several lightning strikes in the outskirts which is free turns/stats while moving towards the 10 turns spent to get the quest item from that zone.

*edit* from the proxy log

Code: Select all

[1-2] Sloppy Seconds Diner (+68 Muscle)
[1] a Mega Cherry Apple Dipped Mudslide Sundae (+37 Muscle)
Leveled to 2!
[2] Rainy Fax Dreams on your Wedding Day (fought a writing desk) (+31 Muscle)
Winked at reanimator!
Leveled to 3!
[3] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob (+133 Muscle)
[#] a Black Crayon Goblin (+49 Muscle)
Leveled to 4!
I got 68 muscle from 2 combats between the Dinner and rain man. I then got 133 muscle before hitting level 4 from the free fights (lightning strike and Goth wandering monster) which let me hit level 4 after only spending 3 turns.

You can also drink stat drinks from the speakeasy for ~100 mainstat a pop if you don't need them for lucky lindies or the +elemental one.
