So on reddit the other day I got interested in someone's post asking for advice for speeding up ascensions to gain Karma but without having a heavy investment in IotMs. One of the common suggestions on the thread was for now don't do regular ascensions, but instead do Ed runs. I threw together a sample run overview for a softcore ed run pegged at lasting somewhere between 5-7 days and posted it. The idea stuck in my head, so i borrowed my friend's account who never plays anymore finished off his stalled Sneaky Pete run, and decided to put my plan to the test. Also, I hope that this becomes a useful guide for someone just starting out in the game, or just coming back from an extended break, I know when I came back that Melon's example Sneaky Pete logs (http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/ ... p?t=202914) were a great help to me before I dove into ASoP.

Info on run:
No IotMs will be used.
Before the initial run I set a hard limit of 50k meat to be spent on items that would be used across all ascensions
Consumables that were used each ascension had to come in at under 50k per ascension
Took Astral Hot Dogs, Astral Bracers, The Wallaby Sign

This log was created by the Ascension Log Visualizer 3.7.4.
The basic idea and the format of this parser have been borrowed from the AFH MafiaLog Parser by VladimirPootin and QuantumNightmare.
And its started, did my initial pulls, should be noted that in previous run I couldn't make it to the Bram semi-rare so that got removed from D1 pull list, also I forgot to prep Shore Scrip so ya, 4 extra pulls on D1, what a great start to the run.... I do enjoy using a very overdue on turn 0, its nice starting at level 3. Should be noted that every combat turn today I had up Prayer of Seshat (+3 mys/combat)

And I'm level 4 before my first fight, makes handling Hippy Camp from start easier. Started here in full tank mode, but quickly learned the beauty of vicar's tutu in an Ed run, massive HP means I don't have to worry about getting jumped and I could just go all out ML. For most of this time I would switch my accessories to HiG, Portable Cassette, duonoculars. I would switch out duonoculars for the warbear warscarf to regain mana. I usually just cast Fist of the Mummy until it died, usually having to go to the underworld once or twice per combat.

Built up a nice Ka surplus, so headed over to the bat cave to do that quest since I knew I wouldn't be seeing lash anytime soon. Got lucky on first sonar, then headed to batrat since it has the best drop rates and blew a talisman to guarntee one, figured the other would be screambat, but got lucky before then. Back to the Hippy Camp until the semi-rare window opened up.

Hit first semi-rare windo, was going to use one of the delay turns in the outskirts to get the lunchbox, but looked at my conumables list and figured the liver part of lunchbox would be a waste, so bit the bullet and bought stomach really early so I could fortune cookie for my first semi-rare which I used to get tasty tarts, which will be good filler for rest of run. Then back to Hippy Camp.

Time to head to the Barrr, I had meant to right away when I could wear pirate outfit, but once I switched into it I noticed the one issue about relying so heavily on vicar's tutu, when you don't have it on you are useless. So I used my next bunch of Ka to get both legs and armor plating, figuring this would allow me to still run some ML, but survive at barr which it did. I had to manage my ML much more carefully at the Barrr, to the point that at the start I only ran HiG with radio off, I also used the two general store items for mox/mus boost. I slowly added more radio and more ML as I could until I was back at portable cassette, HiG, and radio 10.

When I hit level 8, I got the wonderful servant buff, so was rolling in the Ka again, got to a point where I was full up on Ka so figured it was time to start adventuring. Ran into my first low-skill problem. I have no turn cutting abilities yet, no lash, no wrath of ra, no queue modifiers, the only thing I had were my talismans of rene. Decided to throw on as much +NC as I could while keeping HiG on and headed to Friars. Started with the Heart since there are two mobs that drop hot wings there and forced the drops with my talismans. Once I got all three decided to go get my pirate fledges, used last 3 talismans there.

At the end of day 1 I'm actually surprised at how far I am into the run, I'm not that far behind my 3 day HC runs. I know I originally projected this to be a 5-7 day run, but I'm thinking now it can be done in 4-5 days. Goal for tomorrow will be zero usage of the priest, time for the scribe to carry his own weight, the only issue with that is I'm going to skip a bunch of areas that would have been nice Ka generators without the priest (goatlet, snowmen, chasm, twin peak) luckily I kinda planned for that by banking 40 ka today, but have most of that targetted to elemental resist upgrades to 7 turn unlocking the kitchen. Hopefully I can get to the airship in a good amount of time.
Day 2
Day 2 in the books, real life almost caused me to have to skip it which would have been sad since I really want to see how this run goes, but luckily I made it home with enough time to do most of the day, ended a bit early, will have tons of banked turns tomorrow. The primary goal for today was getting to the airship before I ran out of my surplus Ka, and not using the priest all day. I also wanted to reach level 11 before eatting my hotdog, but with the time constraints I didn't know if this was possible.

Needed to buy wards two, this allows me to have +3/+3 natural, +2/+2 from war bear, and +1/+1 from surgical mask that I pulled yesterday. This leaves me at +6/+6 and I need to get to +9/+9 to min turn kitchen. Instead of using my last 30 Ka to learn resist 3, I instead figure out that scroll of Protection from Bad Stuff is pullable, so I quickly buy one in the mall and pull it. Bridge from pirate netted me +12/+14, did one turn in chasm got a plank then used two more keepsakes to get to +23/+24

First floor unlocked, I miss my natural pool skill. Had 0 natural, 5 from Ed Staff and quickly downed a gimlet to bring me to 9. Used chalky hands asap (now at 12 skill), and selected the second option in the NC 3 times to get me to 18, an argument could have been made that when I was sitting at 16 skill I should have tried to beat the ghost since even on a fail I would have gone to 17 and more then likely won on same NC, but didn't think of that at the time.

And airship finished, got 42 Ka which is a nice little bit and should be enough to cover my days needs. Forgot to banish first mecha I came across with the LTB and by the time I saw him again I had already lashed all the items I needed so held off. Was really excited that I would get a good airship, then it took 15 turns to get SOCK after last Immateria, sucks!

At this point I was sitting a long long way away from level 11, didn't want to power level when I had so many quests left undone so instead decided to work level 9 quest. Finished up the bridge with two clovers from today to bring me to 29/30 and then got lucky and managed the last piece on next turn. My plan for oil Peak was to get above ML 50 to get barons, they have a 100/30% drop rate on crudes, this means a talisman of rene will force one, however, you can also get lucky on your lash and maybe pick off the 30% one. What I did was I knew it would take 9 turns to finish oil peak, I then kept track of crudes I had. I would lash each slime and kill it. If I was ever at a point where I needed 2 crudes per rest of turns left I planned on just dropping a talisman for those turns, but I got lucky and the lash was enough.

Twin peak was interesting, by default i was now meeting 3 out of the 4 tests, but the one that was eluding me was the item find test. Usually I would have done either KGE and opened dispensary or finished friars quest by this point but neither of those were available. I instead remembered that i had A Light Never Goes out so all I had to do was get to 50 smithiness, this was handled by equipping the crossbow I pulled yesterday for modern zombies, my 50 was from hat (5), crossbow (5), off-hand (5), pants (5), HiG (5), flaskfull (25),, got lucky and first combat was a hedge which let me lash its hedge clippers and force the hotel.

Pretty straigh forward Friars quest, I was going to do A-Boo to finish off Highland quest today, but lacking both upgrades for Arms and Resist 3, it didn't make sense.

Pretty quick first three areas of the crypt considering lack of helpers, got really lucky in the alcove, was running 200% (legs 1/2, crossbow, swabbie swab, old-bronzer) at that init level and since i was running 10% -combat it should have taken me 10 turns not including the boss, instead I managed 7 turns including the boss almost 2 standard deviations better. Jumped over to limerick dungeon to get eyedrops since I really have no clue what my SRs should be at this point, not doing nuns so inhaler is not needed, most likely will hit up bram after I unlock basement just so I have choker if I ever do this again, but other then that I can't think of anything. That free retreat was me using the LTB to banish one of the non-dirty liches, figured it was a good use.

And done with day 2, got to level 11 and quickly at my hotdog, was running out of time so just pulled something I knew I would need later for my last pull of the day. Was trying to finish up crypt but ran out of time, was hoping to do more in Nook since I was lashing each mob and if I didn't steal an evil eye I was forcing with a talisman but oh well, 4/5 lashes shouldn't make or break this run. Glad I was able to do the entire day without switching to my priest and farming more Ka.

Current Status: Level 1-8, 10 quest complete. Level 9 only need Boo peak, Pirates prepped, ballroom unlocked, and have stone wools for level 11 quest. Banked in the high 70s low 80s turns so even though I'm only sitting at 2 Ka right now I have time before I need to find more. Biggest red flag I foresee right now is the fact I'm barely level 11 and don't have all that much left to go. Not quite sure what spell to take now that I'm 11, have no great YR targets tomorrow so Wrath of Ra doesn't make sense, Curse of marshmellow might be nice, but is just a bit more drain on my already tight mana resources since I'm trying to use the warbear warscarf as little as possible. Most likely will get the second buff which will give me a bunch of mys and hopefully allow my fist of the mummy to do more damage, right now only doing about 72-74 damage which means a lot of the higher level stuff it makes more sense to roar of lion them since it takes 3 fists or 1 roar for same mana usage.

Turn rundown finished!
Wow finished that much quicker then I expected, I figured it would at least be 4 days. I really missed my IotM, espically this year's chateau and love bugs, they would have made the run a whole lot easier and wouldn't have required me to pull 7 clovers. It was interesting to see where the stress points were in this run, much different then my HC Ed runs. The Smith's helped out a ton to trivalize some of the biggest hurdles I faced in HC. The biggest change i noticed was the lack of -combat (Should be noted, I traded a Mr. A on my account for 10 skill points, so even on my first run I was able to get to Shed), it was frustrating at times.

Thank you so much for sharing, it really helped me cut my run down to 3 days. Still had 810 turns but it's progress for me.

My main question is, how did you go about doing the war quest? I was confused as to how you accessed the orchard, did you just fight your way through? Or complete it as a hippy?

With no outfit on, you can work on the quest at any time. You can't actually turn the quest in until you fight through the hippies, but doing it early lets you flyer those monsters at least.

Also, doing the filthworms before the battlefield is nice if you're trying to get the most out of item% potions like cyclops eyedrops and the frost flower. That makes it easier do the filthworms with as much +item% as you can find, and then any leftover turns of those potions might help find boo-clues if you haven't done that yet, or tomb ratchets if you're not ed, etc.
Also, you don't need the frat outfit equipped to fight gremlins either. You just need it on to talk to Yossarian, so if you have better equipment to help you survive there, it's something to keep in mind.
