I See A Bad Time Today - Creelie's BM S

Post by Creelie » Sat May 10, 2014 4:10 pm

So after much dithering vis-a-vis what state I wanted to be in for the livestreaming event tentatively scheduled for the 24th, and then the unpleasant revelation that I couldn't check out Spring Break Beach in post-prism BM, I decided to fling myself into the VERY LAST of my Bad Moon runs. I NEVER HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN! HUZZAH! The planned perm this run is Saucegeyser.
=== DAY 1 ===

[1-84] Day 1 turns
  • [#] (none)
    • [#] Hell's Kitchen
      Leveled to 3!
    [1-9] The Spooky Forest

    [20] The Typical Tavern Cellar
    • [20] a drunken rat
      Beaten up.
    [21-27] The Sleazy Back Alley
    • [21] a rushing bum
      Leveled to 4!
    [28-37] The Typical Tavern Cellar
    • [#] Drank 2x wine spritzer [10 adventures gained]
[#] Drank 2x Mad Train wine [6 adventures gained]

[70-84] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob
    • [72] Lunchboxing
      Semirare!
[#] Drank Typical Tavern swill [6 adventures gained]
Got a lucre, but TWICE I got a chef's hat, right-clicked to equip it, and SOLD IT INSTEAD!!! At least I can't autosell Inner Sauce now that I have it. Also, Saucy Salve is ONLY in combat? Ugh.

Plodding slowly at first, in the miserable way of a no-skill myst class early in a run. It is what it is.

Tomorrow:
-beaten up: Haiku Dungeon to fairy gravy, Barrels.
1. Outskirts to chef's hat.
2. Forest to Temple and torso unlocked.
3. Garage to meatcar, turn in, Garage to 2000 BM meat and 1 spare spring. Buy Saucestorm and Saucecrafting.
4. Gym to skirt.
5. Pick up anticheese.
6. SotB to 4000 BM meat.
7. Haiku Dungeon to fairy gravy if I didn't get it earlier.
8. Guano Junction to 2 sonars.
9. Beanbat chamber to 1 closeted bean, plus enough extra to fill up on burritos.
10. Bakery to bugbear costume if it didn't drop already.
11. Brawl to leprechaun.
12. Panhandling, leprechaun, Hella Smooth, farm bodyguard bats and kill Boss Bat. Set Hotel to get britches?

The Boss Bat's Lair is a damn miserable place for a myst class; the jump in survivability between bodyguards and Boss keeps getting me one-shotted. At least I got some comfy moxie pants - every little bit helps early on. I actually JUST barely got everything done I wanted to, although I had to rearrange some things to get food before running out of turns. I hit level 6 tomorrow, which means I finally get to try out Soul Saucery! I'm excited for it.

Tomorrow:
-beaten up: Spooky forest to spooky mushroom(s), Barrels.
1. Billiards to Library key.
2. Barracks to KGE outfit.
3. Kitchens out of uniform to Knob mushroom, make fairy.
4. DD with fairy. Eat all food. Save token.
5. Kitchens in uniform to get cake parts, make cake.
6. Hellevator to 7 (gonna get me a codpiece, see if that and britches can help me survive without a breath spray).
7. Treasury to Animal Exploiter BM buff.
8. Hella Tough buff, spare chalk, hairspray/balm/mascara, kill King and Baron. If beaten up by Baron, switch off Hellevator.
9. Funhouse with fairy to LEW. Sell hammer after making it.
10. Cemetary with fairy to Tower unlocked. I regret not putting bats here, using 1st +meat BM buff.
11. Tower with fairy to brain.

I don't have +fam weight this time. I wonder if it's worth getting the familiar equipment for my fairy?

Thank you, FoB!

I briefly considered going after the fruit golem today, but I didn't have a Hella buff left. However, I should be able to squeeze in Liver before lime farming tomorrow, and maybe even a rabbit's foot too - or at least progress towards one.

Tomorrow:
1. Liver, with fairy and eyedrops.
2. Road with fairy until ~20 turns left. If somehow I get Road done fast, go back to Grove for BM meat.
3. Eyedrops, pet-buffing spray, all +item gear, hairspray/balm, go to Menagerie 2. Olfact golem, get Hella Smooth and Burrito blessing, farm limes until turns or blessing runs out. I got a Harold's bell again; use it on the Knob Goblin mutant, and save GOTOs (30% chance free runaway).

[362-476] Day 4 turns
  • [#] The Road to White Citadel
    • [#] Ate candied yams [9 adventures gained]
[#] Ate tofurkey leg [10 adventures gained]
[#] Ate 2x Hell broth [21 adventures gained]
[#] Drank bloody mary [6 adventures gained]
[#] Drank whiskey sour [5 adventures gained]
    [362-385] Infernal Rackets Backstage
    • [#] Drank gin-soaked blotter paper [2 adventures gained]
    [386-391] The Laugh Floor
    • [391] a CH Imp
      Beaten up.
[392-395] The Barrel Full of Barrels
    • [#] Drank whiskey and cola [6 adventures gained]
[#] Drank salty dog [5 adventures gained]
    [396-414] The Laugh Floor
[415-423] The Road to White Citadel
[424] The Outskirts of Cobb's Knob
    • [424] Lunchboxing
      Semirare!
[#] Drank thermos full of Knob coffee [5 adventures gained]
[425-433] The Road to White Citadel
[434-436] The Shore, Inc. Travel Agency
    • [434-436] Welcome to The Shore, Inc.
      Leveled to 8!
    [437-439] Whitey's Grove
[440-445] The Shore, Inc. Travel Agency
    [446] Whitey's Grove
[447-458] The Road to White Citadel
    [459-476] Cobb's Knob Menagerie, Level 1
    • [460] a Fruit Golem
      On the trail!
[#] Drank strawberry wine [6 adventures gained]
Day 4 Liver! That's new for me. I slightly regret not pushing through to the rabbit's foot before olfacting the golem. Pushing ML (via not turning off Hellevator after getting special boss drops) is going fairly well, but . . . expensively. I can't afford a wand at this rate. Luckily the full hippy suit dropped on the Road - that's why I went back to the Grove, to afford going to the Shore to get to the store. Considered DD'ing up all the keys, and then remembered I need !potions anyway. It'll just have to wait until I'm richer.

Tomorrow:
-make and eat Jarlsberg's key lime pies.
1. Hella Smooth, Burrito blessing, finish lime farming.
1a. Bat Hole Entrance to 3000 BM meat. I'm pretty strapped.
2. DD second token, save it. This is my "blew up wand before getting third key from one key/need a potato" insurance. Doing okay without a breath spray.
3. Road to rabbit's foot.
4. Cyrpt. Fairy nook and niche (until lihc face), leprechaun alcove and cranny. Take meat noncombat choices. Leave Bonerdagon for now.
5. Mine with fairy.

    • [#] Drank strawberry daiquiri [5 adventures gained] (+5 Muscle, +5 Mysticality, +14 Moxie)
[535-544] The Defiled Nook (+59 Muscle, +113 Mysticality, +64 Moxie)
[545-565] The Defiled Niche (+105 Muscle, +380 Mysticality, +137 Moxie)
[566-580] The Defiled Alcove (+81 Muscle, +138 Mysticality, +65 Moxie)

    • [602] a dopey 7-Foot Dwarf (+6 Muscle, +9 Mysticality, +5 Moxie)
      Leveled to 9!
[#] Drank strawberry wine [5 adventures gained] (+10 Moxie)
(Turned on the stat gain record to make sure Proxy read my leaflet appropriately; it did.)

Lime farming yielded 10 limes this time; enough for 3 days of a full stomach plus one kept aside for the tower, minus today, so that's food for 2 days. Lime pies, an omelette, cherry pies (there's never enough whiskey or wine) and a couple of DD food items should carry me to the Castle, and then the Hidden City and the Desert, and then the Orchard. Enjoying Soul Saucery now; the whole extra-resource mechanic is interesting, I enjoy having a simple, reliable stun in S as much as I did in PM, and the controllable flow of MP is nice. By comparison Vermincelli had me dumping excess MP constantly. I cranked ML after all for the Cranny; if things stay sustainable I'll probably not turn it down for a vertebra, especially considering I would have to farm a hemp string as well. Got my mining suit on the exact last turn.

Tomorrow:
-at some point I still need a spooky mushroom. Beaten Up/debuffed, that's where I want to be.
-wait to eat; I'll be able to make milk of magnesium today, because I AM A SAUCEROR!
1. Mining.
2. Hella Smooth, Burrito blessing, fairy, eyedrops and spray, and farm dairy goats. 1 milk = 3 potions = 3x15 fullness coverage. 2 milks is pretty damn good, but 3 is better.
3. Spooky Forest to mushrooms.
4. Feast upon milk-boosted grue egg omelette and pies.
5. Barrel as much booze as needed for the day (minus whiskey yields off goats). Not quite ready for pirates yet.
6. eXtreme slope to outfit.
7. Grapefruit potion, cherry potion, Peak 3 times (Salve-healing off the yetis for cheap HP), then Groar, then Bonerdagon.
8. If time: Cove to pirate suit.
9. If still time: bank. Day 7 I want to use the +booze friar blessing for rum in the Barrr, and do it before drinking so I can take the drunk/stats noncombat choices.

    [617] The Limerick Dungeon
    • [617] ??? (complicated turn)
      Semirare!
    [618-620] Itznotyerzitz Mine (in Disguise)
    [621-640] The Goatlet
    [641] The Spooky Forest
    • [#] Ate Jarlsberg's key lime pie [18 adventures gained]
[#] Ate grue egg omelette [30 adventures gained]
[#] Ate Jarlsberg's key lime pie [20 adventures gained]
[#] Ate Knob pasty [7 adventures gained]
[#] Ate fortune cookie [2 adventures gained]
      [#] Drank 2x old-fashioned [19 adventures gained]
[642-646] The Barrel Full of Barrels
    • [#] Drank whiskey and soda [6 adventures gained]
[#] Drank margarita [5 adventures gained]
[#] Drank whiskey and soda [6 adventures gained]
[#] Drank vodka and cranberry [6 adventures gained]
[#] Drank shot of grapefruit schnapps [2 adventures gained]
    [647-668] The eXtreme Slope
    [669-673] The Mist-Shrouded Icy Peak
    • [#] Used chest of the Bonerdagon
    [674-683] The Obligatory Pirate's Cove
[684-714] The Smut Orc Logging Camp
    [715-728] A-Boo Peak
    [729-746] Oil Peak
    [747-749] Twin Peak
    • [749] a Creepy Ginger Twin
      Beaten up.
[750-752] The Barrel Full of Barrels
    [753-760] Twin Peak
    • [754] Lost in the Great Overlook Lodge (choice from rusty hedge trimmers)
[759] Lost in the Great Overlook Lodge (choice from rusty hedge trimmers)
[#] Drank sangria [10 adventures gained]
Had way more turns than planned. Got a convenient lucre, not sure what I'll do with it. Waiting until I can use as many ele resist items as have dropped (that can drop) to do A-Boo worked well last run.

The Spookyraven revamp is likely to slow things down unless it spades out very quickly.

Tomorrow:
-wait to drink until after Barrr.
1. Barrr, taking all drunk/stats noncombat choices.
1a. Drink up to 19 after Barrr done.
2. Zap wand.
3. F'c'le.
4. Airship.
5. Castle. Picked up a bounty for here as well. Not sure what I'll do with all these lucres - maybe extra limes, considering this run is likely to go long due to the new Spookyraven.

[#] Ate Jarlsberg's key lime pie [19 adventures gained]
[#] Ate sponge cake [6 adventures gained]
    [761-778] Barrrney's Barrr
    • [761] That Explains All The Eyepatches
      Leveled to 10!

    • [869] an Alphabet Giant
      Beaten up.
      [873] a Fitness Giant
      Beaten up.
[879-890] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Ground Floor)
[891-927] The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky (Top Floor)
    • [#] Drank Ye Olde Meade [15 adventures gained]
Didn't quite get additional lucre before finishing trash quest/opening HitS, but I'll stick it out tomorrow. From what I can tell, the Staff of Fats from the Palindome gives additional pool skill, and I'm almost to the point of having it. It's probably not optimal to wait this long to open new Spookyraven in a normal run, but since the changes dropped mid-run anyway I might as well wait now until I have that additional advantage. All of which means I'm stuck doing the high-level areas without the Ballroom +NC song :( So that's taking longer than normal. Also I lost my SR, but that was my own fault for getting Teleportitis without checking.

Tomorrow:
-only drink to 10 to begin with.
-save Hella Smooth and Burrito blessing for lime farming.
1. Finish Castle bounty.
2. Farm pixels.
3. Farm HitS.
4. If not 11, proceed with opening new Spookyraven, beginning in Kitchen with hot/stench resistance, to Billiards key.
4a. Then Billiards, with chalk, pool cue equipped, 10 drunk, rabbit's foot, to Library key.
4b. Library to necklace. Consider olfacting desk?
4c. Research how the Manor works now and proceed forward until 11.
5. Once 11, work on MacGuffin quest, prioritizing:
5a. Unlocking Hidden Tavern.
5b. If not done Billiards yet, Palindome leg for Staff of Fats.
5c. Everything else.
6. With ~20 turns left, after either completing Billiards or giving up on Billiards for the day and drinking to 19, farm limes.

At level 10+ I wouldn't bother farming limes again. Once the war starts you'll have hippy pies and better stuff without spending any turns farming food.

Level 11 you can find good food stuff in oasis/desert, maybe in the new manor now too? I haven't really come to grips with how much it's going to suck now in BM but whatever.

I guess I should point out that the BM potato from the conservatory has been retired and it won't be coming back, so there's no choice but to DD a potato from now on. Guess that means 2/3 keys before the final day or being forced to wand it up.

I'm pretty sure that main stat hell foods aren't the best way to go in BM anymore.

Lucifers over main stat hell foods in BM

The difference might look marginal but a marginal difference early on means better chances at faster adv saucing, faster getting milk of magnesium, faster liver etc. etc. etc. etc.

since this is your "last" run, I guess you don't have to worry about that anymore.

Good luck with the rest of the run.

Yeah, generally I have only farmed limes once because the Castle/City/Oasis food is pretty good and carried me to pies. I'm only thinking about doing it on this run because I have to unlock the entire Manor from scratch, which is going to bork the entire run considerably :( :( :(

I never depended on the conservatory potato, partly because I only recently learned it existed >_< I choose to get a wand, because I need !potions anyway and it can be useful in several spots along the way, and then have one key and one token already before the final day. Use key 1, zap it into key 2 and use it, zap hoping for key 3, if it blows up get key 3 with saved token, then if I need a potato I go into the DD one more time and get it with that token. If I get key 3 from zapping I can use the saved token on a potato if I need it. If I get key 3 from zapping without blowing up the wand AND I don't turn out to need a potato, oh well - at least I avoided the terrible situation of having enough turns to ascend on a particular day and then be screwed due to having no way to obtain a potato.

This is a very good illustration of my personal comfort zone when it comes to ascension strategy.
I'm pretty sure that main stat hell foods aren't the best way to go in BM anymore.

Lucifers over main stat hell foods in BM

The difference might look marginal but a marginal difference early on means better chances at faster adv saucing, faster getting milk of magnesium, faster liver etc. etc. etc. etc.
Hmmmm. I dunno about this. The tradeoff of lucifers at the start and meat globes later on, instead of stat foods at the start, is floundering around at absolute level 1 when you start adventuring. You're going to get one-shotted a LOT, especially as a myst class. I mean you get one-shotted ANYWAY in BM, especially as a myst class, but it would be even worse without that little bit of a head start. I might try it as a muscle class if I ever went back into BM (HAHA NOT ON YOUR LIFE . . . unless I someday want to dual-wield bludgeons).
since this is your "last" run, I guess you don't have to worry about that anymore.

Good luck with the rest of the run.
Thanks for all the feedback! I hope our discussions may be of use to anyone reading these logs :)

    [1056] The Oasis
    [1057-1061] The Arid, Extra-Dry Desert
    [1062-1068] The Hidden Bowling Alley
    • [#] Drank Fog Murderer [16 adventures gained]
After the discussion above, I elected not to farm limes. I actually have lots of giant sushi, one lime pie left because I forgot to make it today, and various and sundry other good/awesome quality food. I'll be fine until the Orchard, especially since the relevant sections of the Manor are spading out quite quickly. That left me with a friars blessing to spend somewhere; I chose the Desert/Oasis. While shoring I chose to also get a UV compass and my top-of-the-tower scrip. Pleased to reach Day 8 Fog Murderers, an improvement on Day 9. Also, I am hoping that for once I can have a 2-inhaler Nuns. We'll see how that turns out. I never used my bloody Hella Smooth buff today - guess I'll take it today and use it tomorrow to guarantee several bowling balls.

Tomorrow:
-next SR should be pet snacks.
-only drink to 7 to start.
1. Finish Hidden City.
1a. Bowling Alley, keep replenishing Bowl of Scorpions.
1b. Hospital in all surgeon gear.
1c. Office.
1d. Drink 3 Cursed Punch and do Apartment Building.
1e. Ziggurat.
2. Poop Deck to Swordfish.
3. Belowdecks to Talisman, take Hella Smooth here to boost chance at acoustic guitarrr - I don't have a stringed instrument yet.

Here I have a conundrum. Bob Racecar/Racecar Bob have a low drop rate of their photograph without a disposable instant camera - only available in the Haunted Bedroom. BUT I can finish Billiards faster with a Staff of Fats in my inventory! Screw it, I'm hurting without +NC anyway.

4. Stack hot resist, Kitchen to Billiards key.
(how smug am I that my most recent perm was Tolerance of the Kitchen? Irrelevant here, but I'll be out of BM soon enough :D )
5. Billiards, equip cue and chalk and lucky rabbit's foot, take 2 practice sessions and then get library key.
5a. Drink to 19.
6. Library to necklace. Olfact desks.
6a. Talk to Lady, get next leg of quest.
7. Gallery to shoes.
8. Bathroom to puff.
9. Bedroom to camera, spectacles, gown.
10. Ballroom to +NC song and basement unlock.

I won't get all that done tomorrow; I just wanted to lay out the sequence.

You don't need to drink 3 cursed punches, if you face a pygmy witch shammen guy he'll hit you with one cursed, then twice cursed and then thrice cursed each time you enounter him... then thrice cursed again if you already are thrice cursed....

The non combats happens after 8 or 9 turns(I'm not sure I always have to look it up), which means if you're not thrice cursed after 8 turns then you need to drink the cursed punches or suffer through an entire nother cycle of the area.

Probably best to just let the chips fall where they may for the guitar instead of burning hella smooth, there's a small chance you'll get one in the gallery or the orc chasm or the bellowdecks.

If that fails then I'm pretty much almost positive that it's better to farm a big rock from the lemon party slot ( they drop random in BM) and get a string from the hermit and smith a stone banjo.

Guess the stats are better in the bellowdeck...

Thanks for the tip about when to drink punch!

I wrote out that plan almost as if I was bumbling through a run in my head. If I'm going for pool before the Staff, I might as well do it first to unlock +NC for the rest of the run - it's neutral to beneficial everywhere I'm going to be. So I think I'll do the Manor part of my planned sequence before returning to the MacGuffin quest proper. Although I'll burn off yesterday's Hella Smooth in the Bowling Alley first.

    [1218-1221] The Haunted Ballroom
    [1222] The Haunted Wine Cellar
    • [#] Drank Fog Murderer [14 adventures gained]
The new Manor unlocks did not go badly at all! Wasted some turns in the Office when I thought I was in the Apartment building. Then I forgot to save some drunkenness for when I couldn't think of anything else to use the day's Hella Smooth on, so I DID use it to get an acoustic guitarrr.

Does anyone know a script that can help me track the Lights Out turns?

Tomorrow:
1. Cellar to vinegar.
2. Laundry to soda. Bake fulminate.
3. Boiler room to fulminate ready.
4. Stack ele resist, fight Lord Spookyraven.
5. Still buffed, prioritize stacked cold/spooky resist and HP, do A-Boo clues to complete Peak.
6. Desert/Oasis/Pyramid/Ed.
7. Bathroom to GMoB set up.
8. If not 12 yet, farm HitS.
9. Usual war protocol.

I'm visiting family in another province this week, so the logging may peter off a tad.

    [1355-1361] The Misspelled Cemetary
    • [#] Drank {???_item_7370_???} [20 adventures gained]
Today's mistakes: not equipping fulminate for boilers, trying to accomplish the same war unlock method as last run, not saving Ed for flyering given that I have barely set foot in the Bathroom. Tomorrow I guess I'll try flyering the HitS first and see how much ML I have left over before shooting for GMoB. I am excited to have 2 inhalers for the Nuns tomorrow! Because of how late in the day I started the War, I blew a Hella Smooth on the filthworms and will use another tomorrow for the nuns. I went and got the Cemetary buff and then banked.

Tomorrow/rest of run:
1. Hella Smooth, adventuring gear with loadstone and rabbit's foot, double check leprechaun etc., do nuns.
2. Dooks.
3. Battlefield to Junkyard.
4. Junkyard. Take off attorney's badge here, buff up HP/moxie/DA/DR.
5. Battlefield to Arena.
6. HitS, with +item and +ML, flyering all the way.
7. Bathroom to GMoB if necessary to complete flyers. Turn in when done.
8. Battlefield to The Man.
9. Filthy poultices.
10. The Man.
11. Lair!

If the Manor change had not dropped in the middle of the run, if I had not been such a doofus starting the war, if I had planned better for my flyering, if if if . . . this could have been my first 11-day BM run. Oh well.

Tomorrow:
1. Lair!
1a. First thing is Valley to meat vortex.

Has anyone actually, personally dropped Bad Moon in aftercore? Can they attest that their brimstone did not turn to stainless, and when they jumped into the gash a BM run appeared in their history? The wiki says dropping BM in aftercore has "the normal effect", and I'm very afraid that includes taking away earned rewards. The in-game warning is none too encouraging either.

I want to max out my semi-rare pool skill, but not at the price of spending days in the horrible limbo that is BM aftercore.

Right now I'm trying to decide between a HCNP run to have lots of turns for the live streaming event, and jumping right into a HCSS AT run for some high-value perms I've got my eye on.

EDIT: So, I talked to /hardcore, and people assured me that once I had the Brimstone item on my person, it would not be turned to stainless by dropping BM. They were less sure about ascension history credit, but I can live with that. Staying in aftercore until ascending into HCSS AT it is.

Was I not clear enough last time? It definitely does not change your ascension history. Check out mine for confirmation, if you must. I dropped the last 2 times to get the florist friar.

I just can't confirm that I've ever bothered to click on the button in BM aftercore after they started doing the asterik thing. I know for sure once you get the BM item, it doesn't instantaneously change.

I'm a bad person to ask because there's been a lot of changes to BM aftercore to where I don't think there's any reason for me to have to drop BM in aftercore anymore.

I used to do it to "recall skills" but now there's a button for that, or get my entire terrarium back, but again there's a button for that, the same button actually.

I used to do it because there was no "mark" on the history about dropping a BM run except losing the brimstone items, which were going into my DC's smoldering box collection, why would I care about what's in the box? In my experience it's a bad idea to ask what's in the box.

but now with all these recall skills, ascension stopping at killing the NS and every other noteable change, valhalla revamp, asterisk...

LOL, what's in the baaahhhx?! That's a pretty badass collection in the KoL of today.

Yeah, "recall ancestral memories" worked for me in the last 3 runs, but this time I want to futz around until the livestreaming event, finally learn to use my DNA lab, finally see Spring Break Beach, eat optimal dogs to speed up maxing persistent pool skill via semi-rares, and generally do things that will necessitate "dropping" BM after I have the last piece of brimstone in my hot little hands.

Well, this run would have had to have been perfectly executed to finish yesterday after all. That was quite a few tower items I didn't have, and an ugly beatdown of the NS.

And yes, my Brimstone Bracelet remained a Brimstone Bracelet :D And there is a 12-day, 1603-turn Sauceror Bad Moon run in my ascension history.
