We really need to privatize these forums on our own server.

What sort of bandwidth does the forum use up, and around how much storage space is needed so far?

Basically, how much would this cost to run ourselves?

Let me investigate with my ISP whether I can host this on my server and come back to you. If it is possible then the net cost would be zero.

I want the domain AllianceFromHell.com or AFH.com or something like that. I'll pay for the cost of that, as well as the cost of the forum migration.

And I'll do my best to prune a few thousand forum accounts in the meantime.

Once we have our own hosting we should be able to install mods that will make spam accounts easier to delete and should help keep them away. Trimming them now may be an incredibly tedious task that could be simplified.

My offer still stands for the anti-spambot mods I use. I think I sent the source for the main one to someone on here. My mods are so heavy that, well, this is what our bots have been reduced to (and we only get one every two months or so):

Also, the bandwidth needed for forums is very small. You shouldn't worry about that with a forum this size. If you get to KoL forums level or something then maybe you should think about it ;).

I got the spambot mod you offered, but there's no way to modify the phpBB here. Bizhat sucks.

Are there any mods for phpBB that would add the possibility to make tables without the fickle that is the [code]-tag? You know, like a special [table]-tag?

Cause that would be really useful. And in that case I'd like this server change to happen tomorrow at the latest. ;)

Yeah, there is, Flolle. The kids over at Iocaine Powder forums have something rigged up. Maybe talk to Mox about it?

Actually, I just wanted to point out another reason to get the ball rolling on this getting away from the "bizhat people" thingy this thread was talking about. ;)

But nevertheless, tables would be nifty for the commune.

I've got a web server and already run one PhpBB on it. I don't see why we couldn't move this there... though if the bandwidth is prohibitive it might suck a bit (don't want my porn torrents slowing down...).

:D

Update - I have bought www.alliancefromhell.com and am in the process of moving it to my server (it was cheaper to buy the domain elsewhere and transfer it).

My assumption is to install the same forum software used here for a safer transfer over, I am happy to pass over login info to someone who has more time in the next week (I am moving from the UK to Australia in 2 days time) to do this.

Let me know who needs access and I can PM the details once done.

Access in order to do what? I'm not 100% sure what has to be done at this point in time.
